Netflix original movie ‘This Is Not a Comedy‘ (‘El Comediante’) is a dreamy, philosophical, sad, existential, and visionary Spanish-original tragicomic indie drama film directed by Rodrigo Guardiola.
Starring Gabriel Nuncio as a fictional version of himself. To use a word from the film, this is “pure cinema.”
Gabriel Nuncio, a shabby comedian, is always broke. But when his Martian space thriller hits theatres, he’ll be in for a hefty payday.
The issue is that no one knows what the script is about, and everyone just wants to laugh or argue over the colour of Mars.

Synopsis of ‘This Is Not A Comedy’ Netflix Flim
Gabriel “Gabito” Nuncio makes a living as a comic, despite not always being in his element.
Gabriel takes the stage and humiliates Leyre. With a storey about him stalking other Gabriel Nuncios on the internet, he gets off to a good start, but the hilarious skit takes a melancholy turn.
Leyre quits because Gabriel’s remembrance of their developing romance makes her feel like a psychopath. Gabriel and Melissa catch up in the lounge over imported beer.
Melissa wishes for Gabriel to be the father of her child because her marriage to Ricardo is failing. Gabriel assumed the beer was free, but because it was imported, he received $100 less than the agreed-upon price.
He misplaces his keys at home and must seek the assistance of a locksmith. Gabriel agrees to pay the extra fee, only to discover the keys under his jacket.
The next morning, Leyre pays him a visit and the two go rug shopping.
Gabito, on the other hand, is short on cash and leaves the business with an excuse. Leyre persuades him to visit the Amethyst Mountain, but Gabriel is preoccupied with a series of appointments.
Melissa’s wishes are revealed, and Leyre wishes him well as a father. Gabriel hails a cab and pays a visit to his estranged Uncle Gonzo, who is dying.
Gonzo dies after chatting with Gabriel, and he returns to his story’s astronaut. He gets a puppy and prepares to sell his script, but he runs into some problems.
Did Gabriel Complete His Script for ‘This Is Not A Comedy’? Is He Able to Sell It?
Gabriel is working on a script about a girl who journeys to Mars despite the fact that she will not be able to return to Earth, but he just has a rough notion.
Gabriel makes an appointment with famed actress Cecilia Suarez after being encouraged by his friend Saevich.
Cecilia believes Gabriel’s character, Sophia, is unfocused, and that the term “Fourth Planet” is misogynistic.
She recommends the film ‘She Astronaut,’ and advises Gabriel to order lobster ravioli.
Despite Ramiro’s pledge to pay, Gabriel still has no money. Cecilia saves the day when Gabriel’s card is refused.
Tenoch, a star who wishes to change directions, is connected to him by Saevich. He suggests that Gabriel turn the storey into a play, but Gabriel isn’t keen on the idea.

Despite Gabriel’s repeated assertions that it is more of a drama than a comedy, both Tenoch and Cecilia want to cooperate on comedic projects.
Meanwhile, he considers quitting his stand-up routine, but fails badly while recording a commercial for cat food. But things are looking up now that he has the opportunity to pitch his script to Cannes-famous director Atom Egoyan.
Gabriel introduces the concept, with a few recommendations from Cecilia thrown in for good measure. However, the director believes that the “script” is more of a narrative than a script.
Gabriel’s dreams are shattered as a result of his dismissal. He eventually abandons stand-up comedy, though he keeps his puppet, Abelardo, to entertain kindergarten children.
He goes against the grain and becomes a children’s book author. Gabriel has traded his writing concept for a pop-up book, as the movie’s conclusion reveals.
The book is about Sophia, the astronaut, as you may have guessed. And, unlike the director, the kids appear to enjoy it a lot.
Gabriel sees a boy who congratulates him on the book as he departs for his transcendence.
Is Leyre Alive? Is She Really Able to Communicate With Space Aliens?
Gabriel and Saevich attend an arcane ritual near the end, which turns out to be a funeral. The funeral is for Leyre, who appears to have died.
Lily, Leyre’s sister, informs Gabriel that she has left the human body. Lily’s traditional belief, on the other hand, emphasises that Leyre is still living in another form.
Leyre is a mystery woman who claims to have connected with the Intergalactic Federation while playing the ukulele.
Gabriel and Leyre had crossed paths a lot before they started dating.
Leyre tells Gabriel that she met him because she is able to converse with aliens. We don’t understand her cryptic statements at the moment, just like Gabriel.
After all, the alien might not be a grey extraterrestrial. Gabriel appears to be an outsider in his surroundings; whereas others in the film have a sense of their place in the world, our protagonist is still trying to figure things out.
He frequently fails to express his true feelings and comes across as a pushover.
Leyre is aware of her surroundings because she is tuned in to her inner self. Gabriel’s isolation is palpable to her.
But isn’t Leyre dead? Although we trust Lily’s assertions, the ultimate sequence alters all calculations.
Gabriel hears static noises on the car radio before hearing Leyre’s voice as he approaches the horizon. Gabriel is reassured by Leyre, who also informs him that Somersault, Gabriel’s missing dog, is with her.
As a result, we’re baffled as to what happens to her. Perhaps she is still alive and Gabriel is only hearing what he needs to hear.
The universe, according to Leyre, aligns us with one another, and Gabriel missed the signals because Leyre was present.
As a result, Gabriel’s absence undoubtedly worries him, as he neglected to spend more time with her due to other, less important responsibilities.
Do Gabriel Just Dreaming About The Aliens?
Gabriel, like the protagonist of his storey, Sophia, is unsure of what he wants from life.
We can sense his repressed ambitions, though — he wants to transcend but is reluctant to take the risk.
Gabriel parks his car on the side of the road and walks out in the end. Gabriel levitates as a halo falls on him, as if he were about to board a starship.
It’s suggested that he reconnects with Leyre. However, the film’s magical realism does not persuade us of his possible “alien abduction.”
Perhaps he falls asleep while driving since the road of life is endless. We rest our argument on the idea that Gabriel is, in the end, most likely dreaming.
