Is It True That “Redeeming Love” Movie is based on a True Story?
‘Redeeming Love’ movie is NOT based on a true story, to be sure. The Western historical movie is based on the same-named novel by Francine Rivers, which was first released in 1991.
The best-selling novel has been translated into more than 30 languages and has sold more than 3 millions of copies around the world.
Rivers discussed how the book came to be in a Fall 2018 interview.
Rivers was reared in a Christian family, but she didn’t start practising her faith until much later in life.
However, she and her husband had a tough time in their marriage in the 1980s, and they turned to religion and Bible teachings to help them get through it. In 1986, the pair were baptised together.
Rivers, on the other hand, suffered from writer’s block for over 3 years after that. However, as she read the Story of Hosea, something changed in her, and she felt inspired to write a romantic story based on it.
Hosea marries Gomer in the Old Testament because God commands him to marrying a promiscuous girl.
In a similar vein, we find Michael pursuing Angel despite her bad reputation because God told him to.
As a result, the film, like its Biblical equivalent, emphasises ideas of redemption, forgiveness, & all love.
Rivers purposefully opted to put the novel within the California Gold Rush. She used to write spicy historical romances set in just the same era as ‘Redeeming Love,’ so she’s no stranger to the genre.
As a result, this book was an effort to reach out to her regular readers and offer a fresh viewpoint.
Francine Rivers, in fact, saw connections between her own life and Angel’s. “I felt like I’d been Angel my entire life, just looking elsewhere, rebelling against God, but terrified him because he doesn’t ask for bits and parts of our lives — he wants us everything,” she added.
