Between 2007 to 2016, Elizabeth Wettlaufer reigned terror in the Canadian province of Ontario. Elizabeth worked as a nurse and used her position to murder eight elderly victims and seriously hurt six more in a crime spree that shocked the country.
Despite the fact that her method of choice was to overdose her victims with insulin, she was apprehended after a chance confession at a drug rehabilitation centre.

Elizabeth Wettlaufer, Who is She?
Elizabeth was born and raised in Zorra Township near Woodstock, Ontario, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Religious Education Counseling before enrolling at Conestoga College to pursue nursing.
Elizabeth got a position at Woodstock’s Caressant Care in 2007, where she committed the most of her killings.
Despite the fact that Elizabeth had no prior criminal record and did not fit the profile of a serial murderer, she subsequently admitted to having an uncontrollable drive to kill, with a voice in her brain directing her to her next victim.
Elizabeth could never resist the impulse, revealing that after she committed the murder, she would experience a surge of bizarre but amusing laughing.
James Silcox, an 84-year-old care home patient, became her first victim in August 2007, when she administered the World War II veteran an overdose of insulin that caused him to pass away.
The incident was never linked to Elizabeth, and her death was attributed to natural causes, giving the serial killer renewed confidence to commit her next atrocity.
Despite her belief in herself as an “angel of death,” experts on the Investigation Discovery special said that her actions were more insane than humane because she didn’t only kill victims on their death beds.
In the years that followed, Elizabeth murdered six additional patients at Caressant Care: Maurice Granat, Gladys Millard, Helen Matheson, Mary Zurawinski, Helen Young, and Maureen Pickering.
The serial killer, however, had a history of drunkenness and drug abuse, according to the episode. In 2014, Caressant Care dismissed her on the spot when she was discovered to be giving the wrong medicine to a patient.
Elizabeth went on to work for other establishments and families after leaving the care home, which led her to Arpad Horvath, her eighth and final victim.
While Arpad, 75, was killed by an insulin overdose in 2014, Elizabeth was also involved in at least six attempted murders using the same method.
However, it appeared that the serial killer would get away with her murders until fate intervened and she played directly into the hands of the cops.

What Has Happened to Elizabeth Wettlaufer?
Elizabeth enrolled in a drug rehabilitation programme at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto in September of 2016.
She partially confessed to her murderous ways while in recovery, prompting the group to alert the police and the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
Unfortunately, it was too late by the time Elizabeth realised her error. Despite the fact that she resigned from the CNO as a registered nurse, officials were hard on her tail.
After catching her and interrogating her for a few hours, the cops had a complete confession on their hands. In October 2016, Elizabeth was charged with eight charges of murder after confessing to all eight killings.
The initial charge sheet was later amended to include four counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated assault. The case was never brought to trial since Elizabeth pleaded guilty to all of the charges.
Elizabeth Wettlaufer was sentenced to eight life sentences in prison in 2017 as a result of her actions. The judge also stipulated that she must serve at least 25 years in prison before becoming eligible for release.
She was transported to a women’s jail in Kitchener, Ontario, after her sentencing. However, according to various sources from 2018, Elizabeth was transferred to the Institut Philippe-Pinel de Montreal, a psychiatric facility in Montreal, Quebec, where she would be subjected to intensive counselling.
