Mike Kauffman, Who is He?
Michael Aaron Kauffman AKA Mike, a native of Lititz, Pennsylvania, and his wife, Audrey Kauffman had a flawless family life, according to their New Order Amish group. They had dated briefly before marrying and having five children together.
Mike’s father was a well-known church preacher at first, but he quickly rose to become the bishop of his village, the highest social position among the Amish. Mike went out to work as a roofer and had a solid reputation in the town, while Audrey was responsible for homeschooling the children.
However, Audrey claims that their children were scared of Mike’s rage because he frequently chastised them violently, which she claims is customary among the Amish. Audrey filed for divorce after her marriage began to deteriorate, and she discovered that he was allegedly cheating on her. She even obtained a restraining order against him to protect her children, according to the documentary, but her problems were far from ending.
Audrey’s biggest nightmare came to fruition in 2019 when her eldest daughter Marlena confided in her that Mike had sexually raped her multiple times in the previous years. Just as Audrey was attempting to comprehend this horrific news, their second daughter, Dorthea came out with a similar tale of her father abusing her on multiple occasions.
Furthermore, Angie, the youngest daughter, reluctantly revealed to Audrey that Mike had raped her several times. Audrey also noticed that the girls had been greatly affected by the horrific events of the previous years. She went on to say that Marlena and Dorthea had begun to show suicidal tendencies. She chose to make her former spouse accountable for his conduct after being horrified by the awful ordeal her daughters had gone through behind her back.
Audrey called the ChildLine and informed the Carlisle Barracks police about Mike’s awful conduct. Mike and Audrey’s three daughters were interviewed individually when the investigation began. Between 2011 and 2019, he molested the girls physically and sexually in several places in Southampton, Shippensburg, and Hopewell Township, according to charging filings.
Marlena claimed that her father assaulted her between the ages of 10 and 16, while Dorthea said that he molested her between the ages of 10 and 11. Angie’s maltreatment began when she was only five years old.
In November 2019, the police charged Mike with sexually assaulting his three daughters after carefully listening to Audrey and her daughters’ statements.
He was charged with rape, statutory sexual assault, involuntary indecent sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault of a child, indecent assault, indecent exposure, endangering the welfare of a child, corruption of minors, unlawful contact with a minor, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, and harassment, among other things.
Mike was imprisoned at Cumberland County Prison after failing to pay a $250,000 bail. Meanwhile, Audrey said that Mike’s parents and other family members began harassing her and her children by breaking into their homes late at night and following them about. Not only that, but Mike’s father allegedly sent Audrey a letter in an attempt to frighten her into dropping the case. Audrey refused to budge and went ahead with the charges, determined to seek justice for her girls.

Mike Kauffman, then 40 years old, pled no contest to charges of statutory sexual assault, unauthorised contact with a minor, indecent assault, and endangering the welfare of minors in May 2021, accepting a plea deal for a prison sentence ranging from 5 to 20 years. As part of his plea agreement, he was sentenced to 5 to 10 years in jail, followed by a 10-year probation period, on November 23, 2021.
