Gaslit: Where is Watergate Whistleblower Judy Hoback Now?

Where is Judy Hoback Now

Where is Watergate Whistleblower Judy Hoback Today? – Since the release of ‘Gaslit,’ a number of real-life figures linked to the Watergate scandal have been thrust back into the spotlight. One of them is Judy Hoback. ‘King George,’ in the 3rd episode, is where she initially appears. Judy storms into Liddy’s office to tell him that FBI agents Lano and Magallanes have come to see him as he destroys any evidence linking him to the DNC break-in and the Nixon government.

Given that Judy is played by Marin Ireland, most viewers guessed this wouldn’t be the final appearance of Judy on the show. The character is fleshed out in Starz Gaslit episode 4, titled ‘Malum in se,’ and the importance of the character’s real-life equivalent in the Watergate probe is highlighted. Everything you need to know about Judy Hoback is right here.

Judy Hoback, Who is She?

Judy is a native of Pennsylvania. On May 10, 1937, she was born. Charles Luther Graham, her father, was a West Chester University athletic coach and lecturer. Graham Natatorium was established in his honour in 1970 after his death in 1951. Lois (née Litchfield) was Judy’s mother. Judy had two brothers and sisters: Ross and David. In March 2013, the latter died in West Chester. David worked as an independent plumbing and heating contractor for four decades.

James Hoback was Judy’s first husband. Kelly was the name they gave to their daughter. In 1970, James went dead from a heart attack. In 1984, Hoback married her second husband, Grover Miller. The latter used to operate the firm H&M Marketing, where Judy served as secretary, treasurer, and vice president, about 12 years after the Watergate Scandal became public.

Judy was instrumental in bringing the Watergate Scandal to light. Nixon’s re-election campaign, the Committee for the Re-Election of the President, hired her as a bookkeeper in 1972. Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein of the Washington Post contacted her for information on the Watergate break-in.

She went on to play a key role in determining the financial link between the burglars and the CRP. She was first hesitant to reveal her true name, and became known merely as the “Bookkeeper.” Hoback didn’t simply talk to the press; she also told the FBI what she knew.

Judy’s contribution to their report, according to Woodward, was greater than Deep Throat, the near-mythical source of information for their tale, subsequently discovered to be Mark Felt, the FBI’s Associate Director at the time. “There were times when [Felt] actually assisted us,” Woodward said to CBS in 2012.

“But the true turning point in the Watergate coverage was when Carl found the bookkeeper.” “The bookkeeper knew everything about the money, including who controlled it and who received it. When you look at ‘All the President’s Men,’ I believe the bookkeeper is the most important source.”

Judy Hoback, Where Are You Now?

When Woodward and Bernstein released their non-fiction book ‘All the President’s Men‘ in 1974, they asked Hoback whether they may use her name. Hoback discussed it with her lawyer, who advised her against it. Jane Alexander portrayed Hoback in the 1976 film based on the aforementioned book, for which she received an Oscar nomination.

Alexander reportedly met Hoback to prepare for her role. Hoback Miller originally provided her accounts of the events in the CBS News series ‘Watergate: The Secret Story‘ in 1992, on the 20th anniversary of the Watergate Scandal.

Judy and her husband Grover Miller were residing in Singer Island, Florida, when her brother died in 2013. Judy stopped working around this period. “We [Judy and Grover] enjoy a good, nice, comfortable life here,” she told the BBC a year ago, on the 30th anniversary of Watergate. I’ve been content to disappear into the sunset simply.” Her daughter went on to work as a teacher. Judy Hoback Miller is a relatively unknown figure.
