The Western drama series 1923 on Paramount+ has introduced a lot of interesting characters, and each one has been very important to the Dutton family’s journey. In the fifth episode of Season 2, Hillary and Paul, two new characters, make their debut. At the same time, Alex Dutton starts a difficult journey back to Montana. These British travelers help and protect Alex in ways that were a surprise, which shows how important they are to the story. Let’s look more closely at Hillary and Paul and the actors who play them.
WHAT HILLARY AND PAUL DO FOR ALEX
Hillary and Paul are married people from the UK who are going to Winnetka, an Illinois village in Cook County. When they see Alex on the train, they know right away that she is from Britain and think she has come to the US to find adventure. Hillary has some biases against Americans, but she and her husband are very kind and understanding, which makes them very important allies for Alex.
During their trip, Alex is in a scary situation when she is attacked and wrongly accused. Many of the other passengers don’t care, but Hillary and Paul step in to defend her. Their quick action stops an unfair arrest, showing how dedicated they are to doing what is right. Even though they are from a wealthy class, they are willing to put themselves in a tough spot to protect Alex from wrongdoing.
Hillary and Paul are so kind that they invite Alex to their home in Winnetka in addition to helping him right away. Instead of leaving her to fend for herself in a strange country, they give her a safe place to stay until she can continue her trip to Montana. Their actions show that they are kind and that they really understand Alex’s trauma and struggles.
Paul really stands out for how much he cares. He doesn’t get angry or hurt when Alex, who is still shaking from the attack, tells him not to take advantage of her. Instead, he shows that he understands her fear and calms her down in a mature and patient way. He is different from many other men who don’t see Alex’s pain beyond their own pride because he treats her with respect.
As the show goes on, Hillary and Paul may continue to be important parts of Alex’s journey, helping her while she waits for the chance to get back together with her husband, Spencer Dutton.
