In the first episode, Will takes Betty, a Chihuahua, into his family. Finding out that Will, the neighbour, had Betty chained up outside was the highlight of the pilot. Betty was left alone and chained up after the neighbour died. Will wasn’t going just to let this puppy stay outside due to his background of abandonment issues, being an orphan, and growing up in the foster care system.
Upon learning what the shelter intends to do with the dog when he delivers it there, he decides he doesn’t like it. He then decides to take the dog home as his own. And that’s a sign because it shows how much heart he’s got. And if he thinks someone else ought to have handled it for him, he won’t tell you what he’s doing to the dog. And I think he has been trying to help others throughout the process and the series.
