Prince McLeod Rams, who was 15 months old at the time, died in his father’s custody in October 2012.
Authorities later discovered evidence that he had been murdered and convicted his father, Joaquin Shadow Rams Sr. Hera McLeod, Prince’s mother, was always opposed to Joaquin having visitation rights.
Prince died during a meeting with her, confirming her greatest fears. ‘Citizen PI: A Failure in the System,’ a show on Investigation Discovery, is based on this case.
So, if you’re wondering where Hera is right now, here’s what we know.
What is Hera McLeod’s Background?
Hera earned her bachelor’s degree from George Washington University in Washington, DC, and afterwards worked for Teach for America.
She eventually got a position at Booz Allen Hamilton as an intelligence analyst. Hera met Joaquin through an internet dating site sometime around 2010.
He told her he wanted to be a musician. The two looked to get along swimmingly, and their relationship appeared to be on the mend.
She gave birth to Prince in July 2011, and the couple was engaged to be married.
That was not to be since Hera abandoned Joaquin shortly after Prince was born.
Joaquin allegedly threatened Hera’s younger sister with gang rape if she didn’t have sex with him.
However, Joaquin said that the intercourse was voluntary. Authorities heard about a video recording of the encounter that Joaquin made without Hera’s sister’s permission, and the footage “substantiated Rams’ storey of consenting intercourse,” according to a department official.
Hera also discovered that Joaquin lied to her about several aspects of his life, including his age and employment. She eventually left Joaquin and pursued full custody of Prince.
Joaquin was an inadequate father, according to Hera, who also claimed that he was involved in the pornography business and was accused of murdering one of his ex-girlfriends.
The judge did, however, order supervised visits for Joaquin, which were ultimately converted to unsupervised visits. Joaquin murdered Prince during one of these occasions.
“I knew how horrible this could get,” Hera eventually admitted. If laws aren’t designed to safeguard children, they should be amended.
Death appears to be the only criterion for denial of visitation in my son’s situation.”
What happened to Hera McLeod?
Hera was present in court when Joaquin was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Prince.
“I have to live the rest of my life with the idea that I couldn’t protect him from that monster,” she told him. You, on the other hand, did not shatter me.
I am not a helpless victim. I am a survivor, possibly a warrior. “However, I am no longer a victim.”
Hera is currently employed as an engineering manager at a major Virginia-based technology corporation.
She’s also a writer and a civil rights activist who works to bring attention to the need for family court reform.
Hera is a loving mother to her two girls on a personal level.
