Who was Corey Parker and How Did She Die?
A young woman from Jacksonville named Corey Parker. She reportedly attended Brighton High School and graduated in 1991. She apparently grew up in Rochester, New York. A few months before to her passing, she apparently relocated to Jacksonville. She was a waitress in a Florida restaurant at the time of her passing.
Corey was thrilled to discover an apartment in Jacksonville at Fourth Street and 15th Avenue North. But as another occupant of Corey’s apartment building reported seeing a peeping tom peering into Corey’s windows, this enthusiasm gradually gave way to discomfort and feelings of unease. After then, Corey was mostly spotted in the kitchen at the back of her flat.
Photos from the day before Thanksgiving in 1998 showed Corey partying with her friends at the Ritz, which was her customary hangout, according to the “Dateline” episode “Rear Window” on NBC.
Corey’s acquaintance claims that Corey had agreed to go to her friend’s house the following day in the same episode. Corey, however, failed to appear. On November 27, 1998, the day after Thanksgiving, Corey was required to show up for a morning shift at the restaurant where she worked as a server. A coworker who was also Corey’s friend suggested calling to see how she was doing. Corey hadn’t answered the door, so he went back to the restaurant and claimed that.
He was compelled to return and double-check. This time, he could see a gap in Corey’s window blinds. He noticed his bloody foot of Corey. He hurried back to the eatery, where the police were alerted. When the responding cops entered her residence, they discovered Corey dead in a pool of blood. There were blatant indicators that a homicide had occurred.
Around 101 slash wounds were counted on Corey’s body, according to the autopsy report. Margarita Arruza, the chief medical examiner, said that Corey’s right hand had defensive wounds. Two significant arteries in Corey’s neck were also cut by the deadly wound. In an effort to establish a DNA match, authorities took evidence from the crime site, and an investigation followed. However, it was approximately two years after Corey’s passing before her case was finally solved.
Who Killed Corey Parker and Why?
Robert Denney, Corey Parker’s next-door neighbour, was the one who killed her. At the scene of the crime, the detectives had seen a bloodstain that appeared to belong to the murderer. A piece of someone else’s hair was also discovered. Using this information, it was possible to find a DNA match among anyone who knew or had contact with Corey. For a full year, the detectives were unable to find a good lead.
They then turned away from Robert Denney, who is said to have told his pals about his crush on Corey. Denney had reportedly begun spying on her and had fantasies about her; thus, this crush had developed into an unhealthy addiction. Denney was able to outwit the detectives who attempted to seduce him into giving DNA samples.
However, the officers watched him closely because they thought Denney might make a little mistake. One day while working, Denney tripped and spat on the ground. After Denney finished his shift, Jacksonville Beach Police Department Sgt. Billy Carlyle collected the spit and transported it to the FBI lab in Washington. After drawing DNA test results from this sample, it was discovered that they matched the DNA of the blood and hair strand found in Corey’s apartment.
Denney was subsequently taken into custody. Denney was found guilty of first-degree murder and given a life term in prison despite his repeated denials and a dearth of other, unclear pieces of evidence.
