Angelyne’s Family and Childhood
Angelyne was born Ronia Tamar Goldberg in Poland on October 2, 1950. Hendrik Goldberg AKA Henry and Bronia Zernicka, her parents, were Polish Jews who met in the Chmielnik ghetto during WWII and were eventually deported to various Nazi concentration camps.
They were among the 500 Jews who survived a population of 13,000 people. Following their liberation, the two married in Germany’s Foehrenwald displaced people camp and returned to Poland.
The family migrated to Israel when Angelyne was born, settling in the Hasidic Jewish settlement of Bnei Brak, east of Tel Aviv. She arrived in America in 1959 with her parents and younger sister Annette, settling in Fairfax, Los Angeles. Bronia passed away from cancer in 1965, while Angelyne was only 14 years old. Her mother’s death apparently traumatised her, as her relationship with her father was strained.
Angelyne’s father later married Deborah, a divorced Holocaust survivor who had a daughter named Norma with him. Angelyne began her high school studies after the family relocated to Panorama City. As Angelyne’s niece, Cheyenne, claimed in an interview with Jesse Small, Henry’s experiences in the war had hardened him, and he was reportedly cruel toward her, locking her in the closet and abusing her.
Ex-Husband of Angelyne
Angelyne is said to have married Michael Strauss, a Jewish lad from Beverly Hills whose father was a businessman, perhaps in 1968. Before she relocated to Panorama City, Michael told Gary Baum that they met through mutual friends. Following their marriage, the pair lived on the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street in Hollywood, California, alongside Angelyne’s younger sister Annette and her first husband. Angelyne and Michael, on the other hand, divorced amicably in 1969.
Angelyne appears to have left home to pursue a career in show business, while Michael went on to travel widely for several years. When he returned to Los Angeles in the mid-1970s, she had already transformed into her current persona, which Michael described as “unrecognisable.”
“I linked up with Renee again, and she was Angelyne,” Michael said Gary. I wasn’t present when she transitioned. Big boobs, blond hair, and this voice — the voice that used to drive me insane. It didn’t add up with who I thought she was.”
In the early 1990s, Michael approached Angelyne again to return some old photos and documents, but she flatly refused, claiming that she had “made another life.” In an interview with LA Weekly in August 2017, she downplayed the possibility of Michael being her ex-husband, saying, “The minute a person becomes famous, everyone changes their tune… [Strauss] will say things only to make his name known. I’m not sure I blame him. It’s OK. I have a lot of celebrities, and if he wants some of them, that’s great with me. “I barely know him.”
Does Angelyne Have Children?
NO, Angelyne is not the mother of any children. The legendary influencer did not marry again after apparently divorcing Michael. Angelyne dated Jordan Michaels in the late 1970s and joined his punk-rock band, Baby Blue, which disbanded in 1984. She had no serious relationships following their breakup.
In a 2017 interview with Gary, Jesse Small, a filmmaker who shot a documentary about her in 2012, claimed that Angelyne and her helper Scott Hennig had supposedly confessed to being in a brief relationship in the past; the claim has yet to be confirmed.
Aside from that, little is known about Angelyne’s love life. “Everyone is special while they’re with me,” she said in a July 2014 interview when asked if she has someone significant in her life. Angelyne is currently working on her own film, “Angelyne: Billboard Queen,” which she claims is the only true depiction of her life. In 2021, she ran for governor of California and garnered 0.5 percent of the vote in the recall election.
