What Caused Mary Kay Wohlfarth’s Death?

Mary Kay “Katie” Wohlfarth was characterised as a lovely woman with a youthful spirit and a zest for life. The 68-year-old wasn’t seen without a smiling face, & her friends recalled how she revelled in the simple pleasures of life.

Mary lived in Akron, Ohio, where she was employed as an antique dealer in the shop and enjoyed a high social status. Mary was well-liked by practically everyone she met, and her friends and family had no understanding why she was the victim of such a heinous crime.

The last time Mary’s relatives spoke to her was on June 17, 2019. She has since vanished from the public eye and is no longer approachable through phone or text. She also forgot to attend to work at her antique store, and the missing woman went unnoticed for two days.

Concerned for Mary’s safety, her family ultimately reported her missing on June 19, 2019, and the police began an investigation right after. Fortunately, authorities were able to make a breakthrough in the investigation quickly.

According to the episode, an employee from a self-storage business on Tallmadge Avenue called the police hours after Mary was reported missing, claiming that CCTV cameras had captured a guy entering Mary’s storage container.

Furthermore, the cameras captured the man in question entering his unit, which was directly across from Mary’s. The police wasted no time in conducting a thorough search, and Mary’s body was eventually retrieved from the second apartment.

An autopsy later revealed that the victim had been raped, and that the cause of death was blunt force injuries to the head and neck.

Who Was Mary Kay Wohlfarth’s killer?

The police made significant progress early on in the inquiry when the victim’s body was discovered in the suspect’s storage unit. Furthermore, the man in question was seen on CCTV footage, and authorities quickly identified him as Michael J. Olson, 35, who was arrested.

Michael, who worked as a handyman, was familiar with Mary and had previously worked for her. There was no evidence of a physical altercation or feud between the two that may have resulted in murder.

As the CCTV cameras at the storage facility saw Michael driving away in a 2012 Kia Sedona, the same minivan Mary owned, more incriminating evidence began to mount against him.

In addition, the victim’s vehicle was still missing, and police suspected Michael of stealing it after using it to transfer and hide the body. Meanwhile, authorities said they had video footage of the suspect following Mary just before committing the murder.

With enough evidence to proceed to trial, the police issued an arrest warrant for Michael and charged him with murder and auto theft.
