As viewers are treated to an intense battle scene, flashbacks of each character’s past are shown. We explore Buddha’s backstory, in particular, to discover why and how he became one of the most influential teenagers ever. We also uncover why he seems intent on challenging the gods so vehemently. As the loss of Jataka drives Buddha towards an understanding of finding inner pleasure and contentment, his perspective shifts. Zerofuku, who initially started as a kind and young god, takes upon himself the pain of humanity until he witnesses its decadence and depravity. Buddha provides guidance, teaching Zerofuku that one cannot force happiness onto others. Instead, Zerofuku decides to split into seven pieces that later form what is known as The Seven Lucky Gods, who still harbour animosity against Buddha today.

Zerofuku emerges victorious, yet he experiences a change during their heated struggle, becoming his former self. As Zerofuku enters his sixth round, his red horns, which had previously fallen off, suddenly come back into being, penetrating his skull from both sides. This surprises everyone present as two dragons materialize from nowhere and wrap themselves around him. “Record of Ragnarok” expertly interweaves various mythologies into one narrative. For instance, Hades, the ruler of Helheim and former Berserker of Helheim himself, appears and shows that Hajun/Papiyas once led Helheim as a Berserker before taking control.

Although Buddha faces formidable strength from Papiyas, he continues his fight tirelessly. Finally, Buddha discovers Zerofuku’s Misery Cleaver and transforms it into the Great Nirvana Sword: Zero through an incredible merging of their souls. However, because Papiyas’ pure darkness is his essence, he finds it difficult to use his Eight Consciousness weapon against him. Fear takes control over Papiyas and allows Buddha to employ his Eight Consciousness against him again before finally defeating him using his ultimate technique, Awakening of Celestial Eye. The Blade of Mahaparinirvana is utilized against him!
