What Caused Sarah Washington’s Death?
Sarah was a 25-year-old Kankakee, Illinois resident. She was the oldest of Kathy and DeAngelo Washington’s four children. Sarah had secured a professional modelling contract, in addition to volunteering at various local charity fashion shows. She also wanted to go to nursing school and was studying at the local community college to prepare for it.
The dedicated young woman worked at a medical centre and was going to begin work at a veterans’ home. Kathy stopped by about 4:30 p.m. on June 26, 2014 to drive Sarah to work. Kathy arrived at her apartment to discover the front door unlocked after she didn’t receive a call. Sarah was in the bedroom, leaning against the wall, when she came in. She’d been shot in the head twice.
Soon after, investigators arrived and discovered .380-caliber shell casings. No one was forced in, and one of the pillows had blood and bullet holes in it.
Who was the Murderer of Sarah Washington?
Sarah’s pocketbook was discovered on the bed, along with her credit card and driver’s licence. There was a mound of cash on the floor that had not been touched. The boyfriend, Greg Dismuke, was initially investigated by the authorities. He was protective of her and had connections with other women, according to the episode.
There was, however, no proof linking him to the murder. Greg did, however, mention that a friend of his, Rex Frank, had dropped by that morning. Rex had requested money in addition to obtaining a pistol, according to Greg. Later that evening, he said, Rex contacted him and reported there were cops at Sarah’s flat, which was ringed by tape. When Rex was questioned, he appeared to be cooperative at first.
However, authorities then discovered that he had made a similar call to a different pal. According to the show, Rex told his pal about a crime scene at Sarah’s house that appeared to be a murder.
Rian Maiden, 36, was shot twice in the head in July 2014, and another shooting rocked the neighbourhood just a few days later. Rex lied about what he did after conversing with Greg the morning of the murder, according to the authorities. While he claimed to have returned home, security footage from a restaurant revealed him pulling into the parking lot.
During questioning, he admitted to killing Rian, according to the show. The victim was compelled to give his ATM card and PIN by Rex. He spent the money on jewellery for a woman he was dating later. The shell shells discovered at Rian’s crime scene were later proven to have been fired from the same gun that killed Sarah, tying Rex to her death. After Rian’s shooting, he claimed to have discarded the gun in a dumpster.
What happened to Rex Frank and Where Is He Now?
Rex was sentenced to 45 years in jail in July 2015 after pleading guilty to first-degree murder but being mentally ill in the case of Rian. After surviving a bungled heist in April 2014, he claimed he had post-traumatic stress disorder. Rex allegedly shot one of the males engaged in the incident. Rex, aged 26, was convicted of Sarah’s murder after a speedy trial in March 2019. As a result, he was condemned to life in jail. He is still detained at Menard Correctional Center in Randolph County, Illinois, according to records.
