In ‘The Dropout’, Who is Rochelle Gibbons?

On the advice of a longtime friend, Channing Robertson, biochemist Ian Gibbons (Stephen Fry) joins Theranos as one of the company’s top workers in ‘The Dropout.’ Gibbons collaborates with Theranos engineers to bring Elizabeth’s idea to life.

He performs the majority of the scientific work required to build the contraption Elizabeth has imagined. Ian, on the other hand, becomes concerned about Theranos’ secrecy and discusses the problem with his wife, Rochelle. When Gibbons is dismissed from Theranos, Rochelle consoles him.

In ‘The Dropout,’ actress Kate Burton portrays Rochelle Gibbons. Burton is most recognised for her role as Dr. Ellis Grey in the popular medical drama series ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ In ‘The Dropout,’ Burton’s character is based on Ian Gibbons’ wife, Rochelle Gibbons.

Gibbons discusses the lawsuit brought by Richard Fuisz against Theranos in which he is called to testify in the fifth episode of the series. Gibbons’ non-disclosure agreement with Theranos, on the other hand, forbids him from telling the truth.

Gibbons believes that crossing Theranos and Elizabeth would be terrible for his family, despite Rochelle’s encouragement.

What Has Happened to Rochelle Gibbons?

Theranos did not want Gibbons to testify, according to John Carreyrou’s nonfiction book “Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies at a Silicon Valley Startup.” The lawyers advised Gibbons to avoid the deposition by obtaining a medical note from doctors.

On May 16, 2013, Gibbons became depressed and attempted suicide. He died in the hospital a few days later, on May 23, 2013, at the age of 67. Rochelle, Gibbons’s wife, is upset.

The couple met in 1973 while attending the University of California, Berkley, and married in 1975. Outside of her marriage to Ian Gibbons, little is known about Rochelle’s personal life.

Author John Carreyrou interviewed her as one of the sources for his expose on Theranos. Instead of offering her condolences, Rochelle stated that Theranos demanded Gibbons’ work laptop and any records he had.

Rochelle has made a number of public statements on Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos. In a recent interview, Rochelle discussed Holmes’ trial and approaching sentencing.

She was worried that Holmes would escape going to jail and instead serve her sentence under house arrest. Rochelle is most likely residing in Portola Valley, California, where she spent several years with her husband until his death.
