Who is Ashley Shutes and How Did She Kill Her Husband?
In July 2015, Ashley married Ronrico. She gave birth to two children before having a third with Ronrico. The couple lived in a house owned by Ronrico’s mother in Cleveland. Ashley had been employed as a manager and customer service representative at a local firm before to the event. Everything looked to be going swimmingly until the event on May 28, 2016. The authorities arrived at about 11:45 p.m. to find a bleeding Ronrico in the driveway.
The father of five was brought to the hospital in a severe condition. Ashley, who wasn’t at the site at the time, later returned to tell the cops that the couple had a fight and that she got out of the house to flee. Ashley claimed that Ronrico leaped in front of her as she was pulling out to drive away, but she didn’t spot him and hit him. Authorities trusted her story at the time and thought it was an accident.
Ronrico died of multi-organ failure on June 10, 2016, after being paralysed from the neck down. But, before he died, he told his mother and aunt that Ashley had deliberately hit him with the automobile. He didn’t want the cops involved, though. So after Ronrico died, his mother, Charlotte, reported him missing to the police, which led to a homicide investigation. Ashley and Ronrico had clashed earlier that day, according to a neighbour, and a family member had calmed them down.
“You’re going to kill my dad,” a child screamed later, according to the same neighbor. When she got outside, she noticed Ronrico lying in a pool of blood. Ronrico’s 11-year-old nephew and a 9-year-old child from a prior relationship were also at the residence. They witnessed everything that happened from the front window. Ashley allegedly ran over Ronrico in reverse before switching to drive mode and running him over again, according to the 11-year-old.
What Happened to Ashley Shutes and Where Is She Now?
Aside from the child’s statement, authorities discovered Ashley Shutes had been convicted of minor assault and domestic violence in 2005. Ashley Shutes hit her husband with her 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe in the driveway outside their home on East 138th Street near Harvard Avenue, according to the jury. According to authorities, Shutes was enraged because her husband threatened to leave her after nearly a year of marriage.
Shutes reversed the SUV and ran over her husband. She then put the car in drive and ran over him twice, dragging him 12 feet before freeing him from the SUV. Shutes then got in his car and drove away. A Cleveland firefighter may be seen on body camera footage pointing out to authorities that the front of the car had been damaged.
It also shows Ronrico Shutes’ 11-year-old nephew reporting the event to the authorities. He said he saw Ronrico Shutes run out from behind the car and that he and Ashley Shutes exchanged comments. The youngster went on to say that his aunt ran over his uncle, then drove forward in the car and got out “like she didn’t even do it on purpose.”
The jury slammed the police department’s handling of the entire investigation into Ronrico Shutes’ death on May 25, 2016. As a result, Ashley Shutes, 33, was convicted of murder in her husband’s death and sentenced to 15 years to life in prison. According to jail records, she is still detained at the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville, Union County. In August 2031, Ashley will be eligible for parole.
