Laura, a successful speech therapist who lives in Belle Isle with her daughter Andy, has a dark and enigmatic background that comes back to haunt her after a random act of violence makes her a national story.
Who Played Laura Oliver in “Pieces of Her”?
Toni Collette, who starred in “Hereditary” and “The Sixth Sense,” plays Laura, the central figure in “Pieces of Her,” which is a much easier ques to answer.
The Oscar nominee has collaborated with Netflix on multiple projects, including the critically acclaimed 2019 series “Unbelievable” and the sci-fi drama “Stowaway” in 2021.
In addition, Collette recently appeared in Guillermo Del Toro’s Best Picture nominee “Nightmare Alley,” and she will next appear in HBO Max’s real crime limited series “The Staircase,” which is based on the Michael Peterson murder trial.
Did Laura Oliver (Jane Queller) Die At The End of The Movie?
Laura, as the key character, is thrust into the middle of the storm from the start. The gunman who attacks her and Andy appears to have disrupted her otherwise quiet life in the picturesque hamlet of Belle Isle.
Laura, on the other hand, has been flirting with danger for many years, as we gradually discover. In fact, we learn early on that Laura, formerly named Jane, is actually in the witness protection programme, which is one of the first indicators of how much danger she is in.
As a result, the enigmatic characters who begin to pursue Laura after she appears on television are actually men who have been hunting for her (and her kid) for nearly three decades.
Laura (formerly Jane) essentially framed Nick Harp, the leader of a radical group, for the murder of her father, Martin Queller, as it is eventually discovered. Nick has been on the run since then, looking for the proper opportunity to strike.
Laura’s close friend Clara is found murdered many years after Laura enters the witness protection programme, demonstrating that the threat has not diminished.
Laura’s cover is broken after she appears on the news in the show’s “present-day” chronology, and she chooses to leave the federal protection programme that has kept her and her daughter safe all these years. Charlie Bass, her handler, is similarly unable to persuade her to change her mind.

Laura’s daughter Andy is reliant on luck and the kindness of others, while her mother is a one-woman army who confronts danger head-on.
Laura (then known as Jane) was highly cunning even as a young lady, as the season finale reveals, which is how she was able to frame Nick.
It everything comes back in the explosive climax, when the former lovers find themselves in a face-off in the midst of a forest thirty years later.
Laura appears to be the only one who actually frightens her, but she resolves to confront him in order to protect her daughter. Unfortunately, Nick is apprehended by the cops, who arrive just in time.
Laura survives at the end of the season and is safe for the first time in years, thanks to Nick’s arrest.
Ironically, having lived her entire life surrounded by destructive and strong men (beginning with her domineering father, Martin Queller), it appears that the mother can never ultimately be at ease.
As a result, the season ends with her staring out to sea, presumably wondering what her vengeful brother, Jasper Queller, is up to.
The one bright spot is that her daughter, Andy, appears to be following in her mother’s footsteps, and the two will make an excellent combination in the future.
