Who is Mysaria?
Mysaria, also known as Lady Misery, was a Lysian dancer who, during the Dance of the Dragons, fell in love with Prince Daemon Targaryen and served as Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen’s unofficial mistress of whisperers. Sonoya Mizuno plays Mysaria in the House of the Dragon television adaptation.
Mysaria, a dancer in King’s Landing, rose to become Prince Daemon Targaryen’s preferred partner. Mysaria was residing at Dragonstone when she fell pregnant with Daemon’s child around 105 AC. King Viserys I Targaryen was enraged when Daemon offered his lover a dragon egg for the baby. The monarch gave Daemon the mandate to deliver the egg back and deliver Mysaria to Lys. She misplaced the infant in a storm on the confined sea on her way back to the Free City.
Prince Daemon Targaryen sought retribution for the passing of his stepson, Prince Lucerys Velaryon, at the Dance of the Dragons. Two assassins, Blood and Cheese, entered the Red Keep and murdered Prince Jaehaerys Targaryen, the eldest son of King Aegon II Targaryen, using a pale stranger as a middleman. Blood confessed while being tortured that harlots had employed him on behalf of a pale older woman named Misery. But Mysaria and Cheese were nowhere to be found by the gold cloaks.
At some point, Mysaria was made Daemon’s mistress of whisperers. Mysaria functioned as the queen’s mistress of whisperers in all but name following the fall of King’s Landing to Rhaenyra, although she did not participate in the small council. Evidently, Rhaenyra was okay with Daemon spending each night with Mysaria. Mushroom claims that Mysaria suggested that the Dowager Queen and Queen Helaena Targaryen be transported to a specific brothel so they may be forcibly impregnated with bastard offspring in place of Rhaenyra having Queen Alicent Hightower’s tongue torn out. However, Archmaester Gyldayn disputes Mushroom’s assertion.
Mysaria revealed to Rhaenyra that Daemon had been having sex with his fellow dragonrider Nettles at Maidenpool after the First Battle of Tumbleton. Nettles was to be killed by Rhaenyra’s order, but Lord Manfryd Mooton disobeyed her. While Daemon sailed to Harrenhal on Caraxes to anticipate a showdown with his nephew, Nettles vanished on Sheepstealer.
Two of the Sea Snake’s sworn swords, Ser Denys Woodwright and Ser Thoron True, had plans to set Lord Corlys Velaryon free after the latter had been put in jail for alerting Ser Addam Velaryon to the impending arrest of the latter on treason-related charges. However, Mysaria found out about the scheme from a whore Thoron had been sleeping with, and the two knights were immediately captured and hanged. After learning from Mysaria how her son, Prince Maelor Targaryen, had been killed at Bitterbridge, Septon Eustace speculates that Helaena Targaryen committed suicide by jumping to her death.
Mysaria informed Rhaenyra about the approaching darkness during the King’s Landing disturbance. Mysaria remained at the Red Keep with other courtiers when Rhaenyra ultimately left the city. After Ser Garth, the Harelip gave the Red Keep to Ser Perkin the Flea and his gutter knights, Mysaria was captured while attempting to escape. Perkin told Mysaria that she would be granted life if she could go nude through the city to the Gate of the Gods while being whipped. Mysaria just made it halfway before she passed away on the city’s cobblestones. As a master of whisperers, Lord Brynden Rivers was rumored to have competed with Lady Misery.
Why is Mysaria Called as the”White Worm”?
In the George R.R. Martin canon, Mysaria’s enemies refer to her as “Lady Misery, the White Worm.” She looks like a white worm because of her extraordinarily milky-white Valyrian skin. Given that Mysaria’s appearance has been slightly changed for the TV series, Otto Hightower most likely only used the code name “White Worm” as a cover. It could also be an allusion to her penchant for dressing in white robes. In any case, Lady Mysaria is predicted to influence the forthcoming battles greatly. As evidenced by her time working with Otto, she possesses an excellent talent for espionage and sabotage. Otto was fired and is no longer on the board; thus, someone else needs to take the lead and use Mysaria’s abilities.
Did Mysaria (White Worm) Die in the Dragon Dance?
The White Worm will be crucial to the Dance of the Dragons as the Mistress of Whispers for Daemon and Rhaenyra. Mysaria will allow Blood and Cheese to kill Jaehaerys Targaryen by allowing them access to the Red Keep. Mysaria will have a fearsome reputation due to her ruthlessness. When Rhaeynra conquers King’s Landing, the White Worm is said to advise the queen to take Alicent and her daughter Helaena Targaryen to a brothel so they can be impregnated with bastards, erasing the women’s reputations.
Given that it is perhaps a little too violent, this may or may not happen in the show, but it gives you an idea of just how horrible the White Worm’s reputation actually was. Mysaria will also obstruct Rhaenyra and Daemon’s romance and play a part in Helaena’s tragedy. Mysaria’s good fortune will finally run out when the ordinary people take control and depose Rhaenyra. When the queen departs, Mysaria will be left behind, where Trystane Truefyre’s supporters will take her. Mysaria is lashed and sent to traverse the city naked, with the promise of liberty should she reach the city gates. Sadly, Mysaria dies of her injuries before achieving freedom.
