Netflix’s ‘Bad Vegan: Fame. Fraud. Fugitives.‘ is a documentary unlike any other, focusing on the rise and fall of Sarma Melngailis, who once owned the health-conscious Pure Food and Wine restaurant in NYC.
After all, the four-parter creates a mind-boggling tale of lies, greed, and manipulation by leveraging access to her inner circle, text messages, and phone talks (with Anthony Strangis).
Anthony Caruana, a friend of Sarma’s who is genuinely homeless, was one of those interviewed here for the same, so if you want to learn more about him, we’ve got the information for you.

Who is Anthony Caruana And How He Met Sarma?
Sarma Melngailis and Anthony Caruana initially met more than a decade ago. At the same time, she adopted her darling American pit bull, Leon. They’d made eye contact while she was walking Leon on a seemingly ordinary day.
Still, it turned extraordinary when it led to the beginning of not just a normal conversation, but also a close friendship.
While she described who she is and what she does, he revealed why he is homeless, prompting her to invite him to lunch at her restaurant and store his belongings in her apartment while the seasons changed.
The fact that he and Leon had grown a liking to each other, as well as the fact that he had always pledged to protect her, appeared to be the main reason Sarma had no reservations about trusting Anthony.
He said in the Netflix original, “She put something into my heart that no one else ever did,” and added, “I can’t explain it, I just can’t explain it… So please don’t ask me to [explain it].”
With that said, even though Anthony had an uneasy feeling when he first met Anthony Strangis, he was unable to do anything about it because he was soon married to Sarma.
That’s why, with tears in his eyes, when asked what he would have done differently if he could, he replied, “I would have packed that big bastard in a garbage bag.” Then, “Throw him into a river.”
What Happened to Anthony Caruana & Where Is He Now?
Anthony Caruana is originally from Long Island, according to his internet platforms, but he now makes Park Avenue, South New York, his permanent residence with just his things and vehicle.
He was apparently formerly a member of the mafia, but now he merely claims to be “the batman of Gramercy Park,” a position he’s held for the past 16 years.
Although Anthony has a sizable online following, we must caution you that some of his content is unsuitable for children or work. If you want to keep up with him on a more regular basis, he frequently streams from his automobile on his YouTube channel.
In terms of his friendship with Sarma, despite the fact that they don’t follow each other on social media, they appear to be on excellent terms. In fact, Anthony once referred to her and Leon as his “two loves” – a declaration he seemed to have never changed.
