Anne-Elisabeth Hagen: Who Was She?
Anne-Elisabeth Falkevik Hagen was the spouse of Norwegian millionaire Tom Hagen and was affectionately referred to as “Lisbeth” by her loved ones. Anne-Elisabeth was described as a cheerful, friendly, and well-liked individual who met Tom when they were quite young. Having just graduated from high school, they were married in 1969 and had three kids. As his wealth increased, Hagen’s wife continued to be active in his business. She had been on his holding company’s board of directors. The couple resided in the village of Fjellhamar, which is 12 miles outside of Oslo.
On October 30, 2018, Tom Hagen and Anne-Elisabeth Hagen went to the theatre with several friends. On October 31, he departed for work at nine in the morning and arrived at his office after roughly 15 minutes. Tom tried to phone his wife, but he was concerned when she didn’t answer. At 1:30 pm, when he got home, he noticed something wasn’t right. There were indications of a struggle, and someone had left him a message. He was threatened with not involving the police until he paid the desired ransom of approximately 9 million euros ($10.3 million), which was to be made in the cryptocurrency Monero.
Tom, however, wasted little time in calling the police. The police decided to conduct the investigation undercover because they believed that making it public could be fatal for Anne-Elisabeth. The phone logs suggested that Anne-Elisabeth had gotten a call from the electrician who was scheduled to perform some work for the Hagens after Tom had left the house. At around 9:48 a.m., he called her, but she didn’t answer.
It is thought that Anne-Elisabeth was kidnapped between the hours of 9:15 and 9:48 in the morning. When the police examined the crime scene, they discovered Anne-Elisabeth’s smartphone, a plastic strip, a shoe print, some blood stains, and other evidence. They could not cordon off the site, ask about neighbors, or call for suggestions from anybody who might have seen something to conceal their involvement in the case. Assaulting Anne-Elisabeth was premeditated in their eyes, and the entire incident was “an attempt to mask murder as a kidnapping.” The police soon began investigating Tom Hagen, and on April 25, 2020, they detained him on suspicion of either murder or being an accessory to murder. However, they said there were “many unsolved questions,” and the case was still being investigated.
Tom Hagen was released from detention 11 days later after the court rejected the prosecution’s case.
