Who was Consquelo Barker?
Leo P. Barker and Carolyn F. Caldwell had Consquelo Latrell Barker on January 18, 1974, in San Leandro, California. By the time she was in her 20s, Consquelo was a proud mother who loved and cared for her five children.
Later, she started dating Isiah Patterson, and the two of them had a son together. This made her the mother of six kids in all. Friends and family said she was a loving mother whose life was all about her kids and their future. She wanted to see them do well and have happy lives. Sadly, those dreams came to an end in 2006 when she was killed in a shocking act of violence.
The Night of the Murder
On March 17, 2006, the peaceful neighborhood of South Vineyard in Mesa, Arizona, was shaken by horrific screams during the early hours of the morning. Neighbours rushed to their windows and quickly called the police after hearing desperate cries for help.
The 32-year-old mother had run from Isiah Patterson’s apartment, banging on doors and pleading for assistance. Witnesses recalled the terrifying moments when Consquelo was chased by Isiah, who was armed with a butcher knife. During the chase, she slipped on the wet grass outside, and it was there that Isiah Patterson stabbed her thirteen times.
Her injuries were devastating, piercing her lungs, spleen, diaphragm and fracturing her arm. Despite her struggle, she collapsed beneath a bush and tragically died from her wounds. Isiah Patterson’s cruel remark after the killing shocked even the bystanders: “That’s what happens when you try to turn a whore into a housewife.”
A Relationship Marked by Control and Abuse
Although their relationship appeared stable to outsiders, the reality was far different. According to Consquelo’s daughters, Isiah Patterson had been controlling and abusive throughout their time together. He allegedly controlled her finances, leaving the family without electricity and water by refusing to pay basic bills.
After Consquelo tried to end the relationship, Patterson’s harassment only worsened. He reportedly stalked her, followed her to places she went, and refused to let her move on. Even after their separation, his controlling behavior continued.

The Trial and Conviction
