Spoilers for Date A Live IV Episode 1

As previously noted, the beginning of Date A Live 4 will need to return to Volume 12. Even if the fourth season doesn’t completely retcon the previous season’s ending, it’s necessary to return to catch up on some crucial information, particularly the introduction of several main characters and antagonists.

Otherwise, Date A Live Season 4 will return to the formula of introducing new Spirits and have Shido go on a date with them to resolve their personal difficulties. Nia Honjou is the name of the ninth Spirit, although she is also known as the Second Spirit because she arrived on Earth after the First Spirit.

Nia’s Angel, or special ability, is a book named Rasiel, which provides her with only objective (not subjective) information about anything in the world. Although Nia prefers to draw manga art rather than merely explain future desired events with language, everything written in Rasiel becomes a reality.

Nia also has knowledge of the First Spirit as a result of her omniscience. Nia is able to discover the truth about her own origins thanks to Rasiel. Nia is also discouraged since she has the ability to learn everything she can about anybody she meets, including their true motives and malice.

Nia, who has lost trust in humanity, is drawn to the 2D world of manga and video games. She reintegrates into society by becoming a manga artist. Still, she also isolates herself, hiding behind a mask and preferring to treat others as if they were just NPCs in a video game.

Ellen Mira Mathers was able to capture this successful manga artist alive after DEM discovered she was a Spirit. Fans of her manga were aware of her departure, but assumed it was due to a disagreement between Nia and her editor.

Nia is being detained in a DEM facility in the Pacific Ocean named Neryl Island in Volume 12 of the series. Nia, also known as Material A, is being transported on a DEM transport and is being guarded by the new Adeptus 2 nicknamed Artemisia Bell Ashcroft.

Kurumi attempts to rescue the prisoner Material A, but Artemisia is capable of decimating most of Kurumi’s clones in only seconds. Regardless, the plane is shot down, but no one is found when Kurumi examines the debris.

Shido discovers a famished Nia lying on the side of the road just after Christmas. Dating Nia is difficult because she is a major otaku who can only fall in love in the 2D world. Shido must figure out how to make Nia fall in love with him through conventional otaku pranks.

If that wasn’t enough, DEM has the ability to cause Nia to invert and release her Demon King Beelzebub. Worse, Artemisia and the director of the DEM, Sir Isaac Ray Pelham Westcott, are poised to strike!

The events in Volumes 14 and 15 are practically out of this world. Mukuro Hoshimiya, it turns out, is a Spirit drifting around in space. Then, when a meteorite collides with Earth, the tenth Spirit is discovered.

DEM had dispatched spacecraft to recover Mukuro, but she effortlessly defeated the war machines because to her Angel Michael’s ability to lock away a target’s functions, including machinery, memories, and emotions. Mukuro may also teleport through wormholes… and drop meteorites on Earth as retribution for the attack.

Shido tries to speak with Mukuro via the phone, but she refuses him. Mukuro thinks he’s a hypocrite because he seals the Spirits, weakening them and making them more prone to DEM abduction.

Things get even worse when Westcott leads a surprise attack on the Ratatoskr, transporting Shido and the Spirit girls into a fantasy world based on fairy tales using an ability acquired from Nia. Everyone must use new fantasy forms to fight back.

Using the Sprit-powered Fraxinus EX, the conflicts finally travel to space. While Shido is eventually able to restore Mukuro’s emotions, the issue is that she is extremely devoted to her new love.

In fact, Mukuro wants Shido to vow that he would never see the other girls again, and he even erases all of the other Spirits’ memories of Shido! It doesn’t take long for emotions to boil over and some of the girls to revert to their darker selves.

Unfortunately, anime fans will have to wait until the premiere of Date A Live Season 4 to see how Shido handles these issues. Fans will hopefully not have to wait too long for Nia and Mukuro’s story arcs. Keep an eye out!
