How Did Jeffrey Dahmer Kill Konerak Sinthasomphone and Why?
Konerak and his brother Somsack had a problematic existence as their family relocated from Laos to the United States. Konerak was inspired to take action after observing his parents working nonstop to provide for their family. People who knew him described him as a vibrant and upbeat 14-year-old with lofty goals and a willingness to put in the effort necessary to succeed. But as soon as he met Jeffrey Dahmer, all of his hopes and dreams were dashed.
In 1988, Jeffrey had sexually assaulted Konerak’s brother, Somsack. As a result, the serial killer was jailed with a work release program and five years of probation. He actually encountered Konerak while he was on probation and enticed the adolescent back to his residence. On May 26, 1991, Jeffrey discovered Konerak while strolling down Wisconsin Avenue and quickly recognized that he was susceptible to manipulation.
So Jeffrey approached the 14-year-old, identified himself as a photographer, and requested Konerak’s company for a nude photo session in his flat. Although Konerak initially seemed hesitant, Jeffrey persuaded him to accept by offering him money, and Konerak complied. He took a few shots of Konerak at the residence before drugging the teen and abusing him sexually. In addition, the serial murderer bored a hole into the victim’s head and then filled it with hydrochloric acid to control every aspect of his victim.
Jeffrey did this in the hopes that the victim would remain conscious but in a vegetative state. Konerak thought he had some time to kill because he was still unconscious and went out to grab more alcohol. Additionally, the hydrochloric acid impaired the 14-year-consciousness, causing him to stumble outside Jeffrey’s residence.
Three women, Sandra Smith, Tina Spivey, and Nicole Childress, saw Konerak sitting with his head in his hands at the building’s door not long after he had made his escape. Konerak appeared conscious but unable to communicate much; as a result, the women thought he was in danger and dialed 911. Jeffrey was on his way back when the police came and identified Konerak as his 19-year-old boyfriend.
Jeffrey continued by saying that he fought with his fictitious partner, who then told him to purchase more beer. Officers John Balcerzak and Joseph Gabrish agreed that nothing seemed unusual despite the women at the scene, who were later joined by Jeffrey’s neighbor, Glenda Cleveland, insisting that the youngster looked younger than 19.

While other versions suggest that the serial killer attempted to pour acid in the teen’s head once more and ultimately succeeded in killing him, Jeffrey then killed Konerak by strangling him in his flat. After the killing, Jeffrey cut up his victim’s body, disintegrated the flesh in acid, crushed the bones, and threw the pieces away. Although Konerak’s head was kept in the freezer, it was purportedly discovered by police after apprehending Jeffrey.

By chance, Dahmer had met Somsack, Konerak’s brother in September 1988. When Somsack was similarly lured into Dahmer’s flat for money in exchange for nude images, authorities discovered that he was just 13 years old.
The teen allegedly underwent drugging and sexual torture but was able to flee. After being detained on September 27, 1988, Dahmer entered a guilty plea to second-degree sexual assault in January of the following year. He was “sentenced to one year in prison with work release and five years of probation in May of the same year.” Dahmer killed his sibling while under probation for molesting Somsack.
