Pamela and Helen Hargan Murders: Who Killed Them and Why?

How Did Pamela and Helen Hargan Die

Pamela and Helen Hargan Murders: How Did They Die? Who Killed Pamela and Helen Hargan? – Before joining the defence contractor SAIC, Pamela Hargan was one of the top HR Executives at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics. The divorced mother of three had a lucrative career, which allowed her to purchase a $1.3 million home in McLean, Virginia, an affluent area of Washington, D.C.

Until the summer of 2017, Pamela and her two daughters, Megan and Helen, appeared to be living the ideal life. Megan, who was 37 at the time, is accused of killing her mother, Pamela and her younger sister Helen, 23, on July 14, 2017. Anger, envy, and greed all played a role in the murder.

But that wasn’t all; Megan Harlan also attempted to blame her own deceased sister Helen for the passing of their mother.

The Hargan killings suspect Megan Hargan was found guilty in March 2022. A future edition of CBS 48 Hours, which is slated to run on Saturday, October 1, 2022, will revisit the terrible double homicide months after it occurred. At 10 p.m. ET, the programme Death Hits Home: The Hargan Killings will premiere.

How Did Helen and Pamela Hargan Pass Away?

Anyone who met Pamela Denise Hansen Hargan or her daughter Helen Lorena Hargan (one of three) described them as kind, loving, and engaged community members. After all, her 23-year-old was only beginning to carve a path for herself after graduating from Southern Methodist University. In contrast, the former was a renowned human resources executive at the age of 63. Thus, they were living a happy life in their shared inner suburban McLean home, which was worth approximately $1.3 million, until July 14, 2017, when everything changed in the worst way imaginable.

That afternoon, Fairfax County police were called to their estate after Helen’s anxious boyfriend dialled 911 after hearing a strange ringing from her that seemed to indicate a shooting. Sadly, it was too late; both of the women were discovered dead from gunshot wounds to the head, and the child reportedly also sustained some further head trauma. Helen was in the bathroom of her bedroom, sitting on the toilet fully dressed with a rifle positioned between her thighs, while Pamela was lying face up in the mud room covered in a bloody blanket.

Who Killed Helen and Pamela Hargan and Why?

Based on the unquestionably incriminating appearance of the crime scene, the first idea was that Helen had staged a murder-suicide. However, the investigations that followed soon revealed a different tale. In a police interview, her older sister Megan supported this theory by saying “something [had] changed in her over the last two months,” but in reality, she was the one to blame. Even her strong assertion that there was a rift over their mother’s decision to scrap plans for Helen to construct a house because she wanted to move in with her boyfriend was incorrect.

Instead, Megan was acting out of greed and jealousy since she thought Pamela was favouring her sister because she declined to provide her with any financial assistance to buy a property on her own. She attempted to fraudulently transfer $420,000 from her mother’s account to her title company because she needed money and was stopped at Pamela’s request when the bank warned her. This supposedly occurred the day before the tragic July 14; as a result, she reportedly killed both her sister and mother to use the latter’s devices for the capital.

Legal documents state that before transferring the money, Megan raced into the laundry room brandishing a.22-caliber rifle, and she didn’t even think twice about starting shooting at Pamela. When she discovered her sister hiding in the bathroom at around 1 pm, she shot her without realising that she had already spoken to her Texan boyfriend, Carlos Gutierrez, out of dread for what would happen. Carlos told the court in 2022, just as he had informed authorities in 2017, that “[Helen] told me her sister had killed her mother. She sounded frightened and scared. I could hear her mouth trembling, and she was sobbing.”

According to Pamela’s sister, Megan informed authorities that Helen killed her mother and then committed suicide, so she was astonished to receive this information. Even still, North referred to the allegation and the event as “awful.”

North claimed that even though Helen was initially found guilty of murder-suicide, in this case, she immediately realised “right away that something was very wrong.”

But physical evidence was against her, including gunshot residue on her hands, her DNA on the rifle bag, and Helen’s injuries, which did not match those from a self-inflicted wound. About a year after the killings, she was detained in 2018. A finding that suggested she had attempted to fraudulently wire transfer $400,000 from her mother’s bank account led to her detention.

The daughter/sister was then charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of using a firearm to commit a murder; nevertheless, after a jury trial in 2022, she was found guilty on all counts.

According to reports, the accused’s aunt claimed that not even in a million years could she have predicted something like this.

CBS 48 Hours will be shown this Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 10 p.m. ET.
