Gentleman Jack Season 2 Episode 1 Recap {Season 2 Premiere}- It’s been three years since HBO’s ‘Gentleman Jack’ launched its first season. To refresh your memory, the 1830s-set British period drama, based on Lister’s real-life diaries, left off with Miss Lister and her paramour Ann Walker (Sophie Rundle) exchanging intimate vows to each other in church, in what is effectively an unofficial marriage ceremony. With such a lovely ending and such a long wait, fans may have become used to the Season 1 finale as a permanent conclusion. Season 2 immediately demonstrates, however, that Miss Lister and Miss Walker’s romance is a fascinating topic about which we have just begun to scratch the surface.
And just in case you wanted even more of 1834’s hottest love triangle…

Will they be able to reconcile their differences, or will their pasts separate them? Now, if you’re interested in learning more about ‘Gentleman Jack’ season 2 episode 1’s exciting finish, let’s dive right into it after a little summary!
Gentleman Jack Season 2 Episode 1 ‘Faith is All’ Recap
Anne Lister meets Ann’s aunt to inform her that her niece’s doctor has instructed her to stay away from the family for her own good health. Ann Walker Sr. is irritated by this, but she feels powerless to intervene due to Anne’s steadfast resolve. Later, Mr. and Mrs. Priestley express their displeasure with Ann living apart from them, but Anne manages to get them to sign a silent agreement. Nonetheless, they surprise her by revealing that Reverend Ainsworth had previously visited Ann in Scotland.
In York, a much healthier and happier Ann is looking forward to meeting Anne for the first time since their wedding. Meanwhile, Mariana writes to the latter, cautioning her not to rush things with Ann and to reconsider her decision to make major commitments. When the newlyweds reunite in York, they quarrel about Ann’s decision about the Crow Nest estate.
Later, they have dinner with the Norcliffes, and Charlotte expresses her concerns about their marriage, but Anne reassures her that Ann is wonderful for her and that she, too, will learn to love her someday.
When Anne returns to Halifax, she learns that the Lister home has been without a groomsman since Thomas’ departure, and she begins interviewing fresh candidates for the position. She also takes care of business and warns James Holt about slacking at work. She fires the newly appointed groomsman after he misbehaves, and employs Joseph, who earlier assisted her in transporting the new pony she purchased for Ann.
Anne confides in her aunt about her marriage and receives her blessing as she prepares for her wife’s brief stay in Halifax before they travel for their honeymoon in Paris. Ann ultimately makes it to Shibden Hall for a visit, but she has an unpleasant encounter with Ann Walker Sr., who chastises her for her relationship with Anne and cautions her about society’s judgement.
Samuel Washington, on the other hand, begins to doubt Thomas Sowden’s account of his father. When he starts interviewing people, he learns from a worker about the night the father and son had a furious argument, after which Sowden Sr. vanished.
Do Anne and Ann Reconcile in Gentleman Jack Season 2 Episode 1?
When Anne initially visits Ann in York, she tries to persuade her to speed up the process of dividing the Crow Nest estate by writing to her sister Elizabeth. Ann, on the other hand, is hesitant to take such a major move because she is still concerned about her family’s feelings about their relationship.
As a result, she requests that her wife not rush her into it. Unfortunately, Anne believes that postponing the procedure demonstrates Ann’s apprehension about making a major commitment to her, but she chooses to remain silent about it. She then expresses her fears to Aunt Anne, who reassures her.
Ann sends a lovely gift to her in-laws as a surprise, and her wife is touched by the gesture. To show her appreciation, she receives a personalised silver letter seal made just for her birthday and travels to meet her. While driving back to Halifax, Anne advises sending Samuel Washington and his family to Crow Nest as temporary caretakers while Ann finalises her estate and will. Ann, meanwhile, is enraged by her aunt’s troubling argument, and she lashes out at Anne in front of the staff.
After the couple has calmed down, they apologise to each other for their actions, and Ann agrees to have the Washingtons visit her estate in order to prove her power in front of her relatives. She goes on to say that she refused to see Reverend Ainsworth when he came to visit, and she urges Anne to start planning their honeymoon.
Not only that, but when they return, Ann vows to write to Elizabeth and finish the amendments to their wills. While on their way to Paris, Anne replies to Mariana’s letters and informs her that she is happy with Ann, to Mariana’s chagrin.
Is Anne a Northgate Seller?
Anne agrees to sell her Northgate property in town after realising that her mounting debts are impeding her business ambitions. She intends to use the money to fund a bid she has placed on a nearby estate. She puts the sale price at 9,500 pounds, but she is unable to find any purchasers despite her best efforts. Simultaneously, the auction for the estate Anne wants to buy approaches, but she still hasn’t found a buyer.
Finally, Northgate’s worth is officially determined to be 6,500 pounds, which is far less than her asking price. Despite Anne’s adamant refusal to accept less and sell the home, she receives surprising news that she has won the auction and acquired the estate she desired. She unexpectedly chooses to build a hotel at Northgate to take advantage of the growing industrial boom in order to continue her business expansion.
