Jagtar Gill, 43, was looking forward to celebrating her and her spouse Bhupinderpal’s 17th wedding anniversary. With one of their three children, Dilpreet, Bhupinderpal was picking up a cake for the anniversary on January 29, 2014. At the time, Jagtar was recuperating from stomach surgery. The youngsters were the first ones inside when Bhupinderpal arrived home with Dilpreet and his nephew.
Dilpreet found the horrifying thing within. Jagtar had been killed with a hammer and a knife. In a brutal attack, the mother of three sustained over 25 stab wounds and over 20 injuries from blunt force. The authorities immediately recognized the personal nature of the purpose since there was blood everywhere. Being the spouse, Bhupinderpal naturally rose to the top of the suspect list, and the police extensively examined him.
The cops discovered Gurpreet Ronald. They had both met in 2007 while undergoing training as bus drivers for OC Transpo. The two eventually had a passionate relationship, which the police believed led to Jagtar’s murder. According to the investigation, Gurpreet’s blood was discovered in the family room and kitchen. She directed the police to a location where gloves and a kitchen knife were discovered while they were being watched.
Bhupinderpal and Gurpreet, according to the prosecution, sought to work together to kill Jagtar. The defense attorney for Bhupinderpal asserted that his client did not conspire with Gurpreet to commit the murder, saying, “There was no plan, there was no deliberation.” Gurpreet killed Jagtar in an unanticipated attack, he said. In his testimony, Bhupinderpal claimed that his three-year relationship with Gurpreet ended in 2013. Bhupinderpal insisted that he never broached the subject of killing Jagtar with her. Additionally, Gurpreet had previously used a knife to strike her husband, according to his attorney.
Bhupinderpal, then 40, and Gurpreet, then 37, were found guilty of first-degree murder in July 2016 and were given a life sentence with a 25-year parole potential. The convictions were reversed on appeal in 2019, though. In August 2021, during a new trial, the two were once more found guilty and given the same punishment.
