Recap of Law & Order: SVU Season 23 Episode 9
‘People v. Richard Wheatley,’ the ninth episode of ‘Law & Order: SVU,’ begins with Olivia having brief contact with Elliot, whose wife’s gravesite they are all gathering at.
Despite the fact that his son Eli appears to be improving, he is constantly monitored by his father. Rafael Barba, a former assistant district attorney, is Wheatley’s new lawyer.
He considers the potential of Wheatley being falsely accused of murder by the New York Police Department.
Baptiste interrogates Olivia during the trial, while Barba focuses on Elliot’s disciplinary history.
Barba concludes that the NYPD interfered with the evidence, jeopardising Izak Bekher and Wheatley’s innocence.
Olivia confronts Eli about his dazed appearance and the letter he didn’t write. Barba brings up Angela’s affair with Elliot just as she is set to testify.
She is then obliged to confess her affections for him. When Barba brings up Elliot’s PTSD, familial troubles, and other issues that could taint the legitimacy of his testimonies, Elliot freaks out on the stand.
A few moments later, Elliot spots the ideal opportunity to insult and irritate Wheatley at the men’s urinal, prompting the felon to make his own case to the jury.
Wheatley publicly accuses Bekher of Kathy’s murder, and a smidgeon of unease in the courtroom turns into more when he threatens Carisi’s life.
Wheatley wants Barba to be his advisor before the jury declares itself deadlocked, but he declines. Against Baptiste and Carisi’s desires, the judge orders a mistrial.
Apart from wrapping his head around the news of his son’s departure, Elliot believes they have lost.
