Severance Season 2: Who Is Mr. Drummond?

Darri Ólafsson Severance

The hit workplace thriller Severance is back for a second season on Apple TV+, with promises of even more mystery, intrigue, and mind-bending revelations. The unique premise of the first season captivated viewers: employees at Lumon Industries go through a severance process that separates their work memories from their personal ones, making two separate versions of themselves called “innies” and “outies.” This new idea set the stage for a show full of tension, corporate secrecy and personal struggle. Now, Season 2 has arrived, bringing with it new characters, changing relationships and exciting questions; One question that fans really want to know is: Who is Mr. Drummond?

Who is the character Mr. Drummond in Severance?

The official trailer for Season 2 of Severance hinted at a mysterious new character named Mr. Drummond. A voiceover says, “Their work will be remembered as one of the greatest moments of this planet,” which adds to the mystery and power of his introduction. The line makes me think of Mr. Drummond’s important job and the power he has in Lumon Industries.

Later in the trailer, viewers get a glimpse of Mr. Drummond, who is a strong man who seems to be deeply involved in Lumon’s business. At first, it was thought that he might be a member of Lumon’s mysterious Board but the game’s creator, Dan Erickson, made it clear what his role is. Erickson says that Mr. Drummond is actually the security chief—which is a very important job for Lumon to keep its employees and secrets safe.

“We sort of needed somebody who was intimidating enough to fill the void left by Mr. Graner in the first season,” Erickson explained. “And Darri is this wonderful, warm, kind, sweet man who can play so terrifying when he wants to.” This complexity makes Mr. Drummond an intriguing and unpredictable character in the ensemble.

As the head of security, Mr. Drummond probably has a range of duties, such as monitoring the severed floor—making sure staff follow Lumon’s stringent rules and protecting the organization’s confidential information. His presence heightens the tension for the innies and outies as they maneuver through their disjointed existences. Mr. Drummond is going to be a big part of the drama in Season 2 of Severance because of how scary he is and how powerful he is.

Who portrays Mr. Drummond? Introducing Ólafur Darri Ólafsson

The mysterious Mr. Drummond is played by the skilled Icelandic-American actor, producer, and screenwriter Ólafur Darri Ólafsson. As a fan of Severance Season 1, Ólafsson said nice things about the show and its director/producer Ben Stiller, who he worked with before on The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. “Ben is incredibly passionate about his work,” Ólafsson said. “The intricacies and layers of Severance are clearly evident.” In a fast-paced world where everything is constantly unfolding, it brings me joy to see individuals like Ben who are relentless in their pursuit of perfecting their craft. He is the mastermind steering our narrative. This journey has been absolutely delightful.
