The White Lotus Season 1 Episode 4 Recap
Paula gets a few honest moments with Kai (Kekoa Kekumano), the hotel employee she learns been dating, and discovers that the land where the hotel now stands was once his family’s property and was taken by the government.
Armond had been sober for 5 years when he discovered Paula and Olivia’s bag. Unfortunately, he fell off the waggon due to the stress of his profession and his feud with Shane. He wakes up with sorrow and shame after a rough night.
Later, he speaks with Belinda, who advises him to get rid of the tablets. Tanya informs Olivia and Paula that she has located their bag and has given it to a hotel employee.
The girls confront Armond, who assures them that the bag will be returned to them. He eventually does, but only after removing all other drugs save marijuana.
He knows the girls won’t be able to do anything because they’ll have to admit to bringing narcotics with them.
After meeting a new guest, Greg, Tanya cancels her arrangements with Belinda (Jon Gries). She incorrectly assumes that when he claims he is involved with BLM, he refers to the Black Lives Matter movement.
During the dinner, she learns that he was referring to the Bureau of Land Management. Mark (Steve Zahn) confesses to Quinn (Fred Hechinger) that he had an affair with Nicole (Connie Britton).
Quinn brings it up during the dinner by mentioning a $75,000 bracelet that Mark bought for his wife afterwards.
The White Lotus: Inside The Episode (Episode 4) Trailer
Why Does Paula Leave the Dinner Table in Episode 4 of The White Lotus?
This episode is more concerned with race privilege than with classism. Nicole asserts flatly that straight white men are the ones who suffer the most in today’s world while condemning Paula and Olivia’s treatment of Quinn.
Olivia tells Mark that not everything is about him as he agrees with his wife during dinner. Mark responds by stating that he doesn’t want to be the centre of the storey and suggests that they concentrate on Paula.
However, when his daughter and Paula show him that he doesn’t know anything about Paula, he becomes defensive and refocuses the conversation on himself.
Paula’s dissatisfaction with the Mossbacher family is growing. She remembers what Kai said earlier as she watches Kai perform in front of a primarily white audience.
She knows she can’t stay any longer and watch a boy she cares about to do something that he most certainly finds embarrassing.
She exits and returns to her room. Olivia apologises to Paula for her family’s actions later that night, claiming that she is not like them.
She had approached Kai and flirted with him at the time.
