Michelle Carter, a 17-year-old girl who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter on July 12, 2014, is the daughter of David and Gail Carter. Carter’s text messages encouraging her lover, Conrad Roy III, to kill himself were deemed illegal or immoral. Cara Buono and Kai Lennox play Michelle Carter’s parents, David and Gail Carter, in the Hulu series The Girl from Plainville.
Conrad Roy III’s death in 2014 shocked the entire country, especially because, despite the fact that he took his own life, his friend Michelle Carter had practically pushed him into it.
As a result, it’s no surprise that Hulu’s ‘The Girl from Plainville‘ has done a storey on this case. However, because Michelle was a kid at the time of the incident, if you’re interested in learning more about her parents, in particular, we’ve got you covered.

Michelle Carter’s Parents: Who Are They?
Michelle Carter, the elder of David and Gail Carter’s two daughters, was born in Plainville, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, in 1996. Even if it wasn’t all sunshine and roses, the working-class parents reportedly tried their hardest to offer their children a traditional suburban upbringing.
Michelle, after all, had developed an eating disorder when she was 8 or 9, was on antidepressants since she was 14, and had even attended counselling sessions at a Belmont hospital. But, like Conrad, she had the support of her parents throughout.
Although David and Gail have been mainly silent about their daughter’s involvement in the suicide case over the years, they did defend her in 2015 before attending each of her court appointments.
“Our hearts have been and continue to be broken for the Roy family,” the couple declared in a public statement. Our daughter, on the other hand, is not the villain the media portrays her to be. She is a shy, sweet, and understanding young lady.
She made every effort to assist Mr. Roy in his depression. We are confident that once all of the facts are known, our daughter will be found not guilty.”
Michelle Carter’s Parents: Where Are They Now?
When Michelle Carter, then 20 years old, was found guilty in 2017, David Carter pleaded with the judge for a light sentence in the best interests of his and Gail’s little daughter. “I pray to God that you will consider that Michelle was a disturbed, fragile kid in an extraordinarily difficult situation who made a fatal mistake,” he wrote in an open, emotive letter.
“I’m certain she was only trying to do what she thought was best for Conrad… She will live with the consequences of her actions for the rest of her life, and I know she will be a better person as a result.”
Furthermore, Michelle’s father attempted to explain the situation to the judge by saying, “I am confident the medication she was taking damaged her mental condition, making it difficult for her to discriminate between good and wrong.”
In terms of where her parents are now, since picking her up from prison upon her release in January 2020, the Carter family has remained largely out of the public eye. All we know is that they are still in Plainville, where David is the Vice President of Sales for a forklift manufacturer and Gail is a Design Coordinator for a real estate brokerage.
