The investigation that began as a home invasion quickly changed course and became a deliberate effort to kill Rachel Owens because she was nothing more than a thorn in the side of the idyllic existence her husband was preparing for himself and his then-girlfriend, Betsy Wandtke. As the investigation progressed, a number of lies that Rachel had not anticipated were revealed.
After a challenging divorce, Betsy Wandtke was relieved to have met someone she could rely on and be with. But in December 2014, his lies came to light and led to a shooting in a different state. Then Betsy discovered that the guy she loved, Gregory Owens, had never been honest with her.
He subsequently received a prison sentence for attempting to murder Rachel Owens, his wife. On NBC Datelineepisode “The Intruder,” Betsy discusses the breakdown of her relationship with Greg.

Betsy Wandtke: Who Is She?
Betsy was at the time a resident of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where she was born and raised. Her more than 20-year marriage started to fall apart sometime in 2006, which resulted in a separation. She met Greg Owns on a flight home from a business trip, and he paid to upgrade her to first class so they could converse. Betsy claimed that the two got along well and discussed how their marriages had collapsed.
After roughly three years of communication, Betsy and Greg decided to get married separately. When Betsy and Greg started dating, she thought he and Rachel had been legally divorced and were no longer together. According to the show, Greg informed Betsy that he would periodically check in on Rachel due to her illness—she had been identified as having dementia. However, Greg frequently traveled for business as a military contractor, which required him to be gone for extended periods.
Betsy subsequently affirmed in court that there was always something coming up that he would have to take off. She also discussed other fabrications Greg had made about her going on covert missions to various nations and divorcing Rachel. The police thought he spent time with both of them, frequently spending up to 10 days at a stretch with Betsy in Oshkosh.

Without Rachel’s knowledge, Greg had a covert existence for years, travelling with Betsy and making friends in Oshkosh. After that, in November 2014, Greg informed Betsy that he was heading to Pakistan to save some contract workers.
On December 3, 2014, however, Betsy accidentally got a call from Greg, during which she overheard him mentioning “Rach” and placing a fast food order. Then Betsy confronted him about it, feeling deceived. I had been misled, the woman cried. I genuinely thought he was out there rescuing lives. I wasn’t upset that he was spending time with Rachel. I was hurt that I was being made to look foolish.
Greg persuaded Betsy nonetheless that he had indeed traveled abroad for business. Even on New Year’s Eve, Greg informed Betsy that he was on a mission in Afghanistan and that the authorities had not questioned him about the shooting since he was there.
Where Is Betsy Wandtke Now?
Because of Betsy Wandtke’s evidence, Greg Owens was convicted of the attack on the Saco, Maine, house. Currently, Betsy appears to be doing much better. She enjoys spending time outdoors and has good knowledge of hunting and fishing. Betsy has held various positions, including bodybuilder, EMT, and firefighter.
Betsy has also worked as a mentor for kids starting out in hunting and as a consultant. In addition to owning and operating the Warrior Princess Training Academy, a facility where females may study self-defense, she currently resides in Oshkosh. She is also a real estate agent. The grandmother recently underwent surgery, but she appears to be recovering well and spending time with her family.
