Sarah Staudte, who is she?

Sarah Staudte is the family’s oldest daughter and one of Mark and Diane’s four daughters. Despite having a French and History degree from Missouri State University in Springfield, Greene County, Sarah had difficulty finding work.

As a result of her mounting school debt, she was forced to return home to live with her family. However, she was admitted to the hospital in June 2013, and physicians rapidly discovered that her kidneys and brain were failing.

They couldn’t figure out what was wrong with her, so they assumed she’d been poisoned.

Authorities began investigating two more fatalities in the family around the same time. Shaun, Mark’s son, died around five months after Mark died in April 2012.

Sarah later recalled reading something disturbing just before she became ill. “She (Diane) had this journal in which she scribbled… her thoughts,” Sarah explained.

Shaun’s, my brother’s, and my deaths were all written by her. And it was the source of my concern… “I was taken aback.”

An inquiry quickly revealed that this was correct; Diane had poisoned all of them with antifreeze with the help of her other daughter, Rachel.

“I’ve been kind of putting pressure on [Sarah] to get out and get a job,” Diane stated in an interview with the police.

The time has come for you to pay your education fees. I refuse to pay for them. After all, you become tired of doing everything for your children, and it’s as if you need to step up and take charge.” So, after killing Mark and Shaun, Diane resolved to eliminate Sarah.

Sarah achieved a full recovery, albeit with major neurological damage, despite the physicians’ predictions that she had a slim chance of surviving.

Diane and Rachel eventually accepted plea bargains for their roles in the crime and were sentenced to life in prison.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t find the confidence to stand up for what was right, to seek help, to protect you and our siblings,” Rachel apologised to her sister. I’m sorry I didn’t have the guts to speak out for what was right, to seek help, and to defend you and our siblings.”
