Ascendance of a Bookworm Season 3 Episode 9 ‘The Black Protective Charm’ Recap

Myne’s security is violated while on her journey home with her friends under the protection of a knight. It turns out that the noble from the previous day had been permitted admission through the gates again. When Damuel discovers that the captain went to the Cathedral to check on Myne’s safety, he gets into a verbal spat with one of the troops stationed on the ground. The protagonist is left unattended in the commotion, and two men manage to kidnap her along with Tuuli.

Fortunately, Myne’s father arrives on time and notices the kidnappers attempting to depart with the children. He climbs on one of them and frees Myne without losing a single second. However, when the blue-robed priestess observes the other thief attempting to flee with Tuuli, she loses control of her mana and threatens to kill him when he tries to put a knife on Tuuli’s neck.

Tuuli is also liberated, and the two men are captured after her overpowering powers knock the abductor to his knees in a matter of seconds. Myne rushes to the Cathedral, accompanied by her pals Damuel and others. The High Priest has gone AWOL, much to everyone’s amazement. Damuel gives Myne a ring that she can use to store some of her mana.

In the meantime, Lord Bindewald signs an adoption contract for Dirk in front of Dalia. Dalia is giddy with anticipation because the High Bishop is also in attendance. Myne and her companions, on the other hand, have already deduced that something is awry. At the Cathedral, they confront the High Bishop and Bindewald. The latter had wished to encounter the blue-robed priestess face to face.

Bindewald has not only adopted Dirk, but has also gotten a submission contract, much to Dalia’s surprise. As a result, Dirk will have to spend much of his latter life fulfilling the interests of the perverted nobility who simply craves power, according to the harsh stipulations. While Dalia is angry, Bindewald isn’t finished yet, ordering his guards to attack Myne’s companions and herself.

He allows them to kill anybody save the blue-robed priestess, with whom he intends to make a submission pact, similar to Dirk’s. Bindewald, which lost several soldiers in a failed ambush a few weeks earlier, could find Myne’s surplus mana highly important.

Myne, on the other hand, does not sit by and watch her people be attacked; instead, she utilises her abilities to protect everyone from the noble.

When Myne joins the conflict that has just begun, the two sides eventually start to resemble each other. Bindewald, on the other hand, informs the blue-robed priestess that she will be unable to utilise her powers against him because she is wearing a submission ring. Fortunately, the protagonist has not yet signed a submission contract; thus the ring’s effects do not appear to be as binding as the perverted nobility would want. Unfortunately, Myne is taken aback when the High Bishop uses Dirk as a human shield.

When the High Bishop’s companion takes Myne to the noble to compel her to sign a submission contract, her father miraculously saves her at the last time, knocking Bindewald down in the process. The noble uses his abilities to attack Gunther, causing the blue-robed priestess to lose her cool once more.

Her mana ebbs and flows out of control, destroying every tool that tries to absorb it. When Bindewald looks to be planning another attack, the High Priest comes and explains that he has instructed his guards to lie and say he is not at the Cathedral. It has now become evident to him that the High Bishop intended to aid the nobility in creating a submission pact not just with Dirk but also with Myne. Ferdinand resolves to deal with the two deranged men on his own.

Bindewald fights back, despite the fact that it only takes a few seconds for the High Bishop to be restrained by his powers. Myne, on the other hand, is present to aid the High Priest as they prepare for a full-fledged fight. To summarise, Bindewald does not succeed in forming a submission contract with Myne.
