Jacky Rodgers became one of the most memorable faces of TLC’s My 600-lb Life after her episode in Season 13, Episode 5 aired. People could relate to her story because it showed not only the physical problems that come with being overweight but also the emotional problems that often go unnoticed.

Jacky was over 709 pounds when she joined the show, and her health was in a very bad place. What made her journey stand out was that she refused to give up after years of emotional pain, family problems, and setbacks. Jacky has changed her life for the better, and many people are still inspired by her journey.

In this article, we’ll take a closer look at Jacky Rodgers’ journey, the obstacles she faced, her incredible progress, and where she stands now. This update from Spiky TV will help you understand how her life has changed since the cameras stopped rolling.

Early Struggles That Led to Weight Gain

Jacky’s battle with food started at an early age. By the time she was just four years old, she weighed more than 100 pounds, which is significantly higher than average for her age. Growing up in a close-knit family, food became her source of comfort. However, her childhood was also filled with emotional struggles.

Her mother dealt with alcoholism, while her father struggled with anger issues, making her home life turbulent. Jacky carried these emotional wounds well into adulthood. On top of this, she experienced heartbreaking losses—she was the first to discover both her mother and father after their deaths. These traumatic experiences left her devastated, and food once again became the only comfort she could rely on. Over time, this coping mechanism led to an uncontrollable increase in her weight.

Starting Point on My 600-lb Life

When Jacky first appeared on the show, she weighed 709.8 pounds. Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, also known as Dr. Now, placed her on a strict 1,200-calorie diet and advised her to follow an exercise routine. Her first goal was to lose 70 pounds in two months, but during her follow-up, she only dropped to 689.5 pounds.

Dr. Now was firm with his expectations, reminding her that failing to follow the program would eventually leave her without treatment options. She did lose some weight, but it took longer than she thought it would. She still wasn’t on track by the fifth month, when she weighed 669.2 pounds.

Things got even harder for Jacky when she had to deal with emotional triggers, like the second anniversary of her father’s death. This caused problems, and by the seventh month, she had gained weight again, reaching 686.3 pounds. At this point, Dr. Now issued an ultimatum—Jacky had to lose 30 pounds in one month, or she would be removed from the program.

Turning Point with Therapy and Surgery

Dr. Now sent Jacky to therapy because she knew that her problems were not only physical but also emotional. Therapy helped her deal with the trauma of losing both parents and having a difficult childhood. This was a big step forward for her.

Jacky lost a lot of weight in two months, going from 623.6 pounds to 623.6 pounds. Dr. Now agreed to let her have weight loss surgery even though she hadn’t quite reached her goal. She just needed to lose a little more before the surgery.

Jacky was able to lose weight and get below 600 pounds by the 11th month, so Dr. Now did the surgery. Jacky lost 153 pounds while she was on the show, and at the end of the year, she weighed 556 pounds. This achievement gave her more confidence and made her want to keep going.

Professional and Personal Challenges

Jacky’s weight had an effect on almost every part of her life, even her job. She weighed more than 600 pounds after graduating from high school, which made it difficult for her to locate work. She first worked at a grocery supercenter, but standing for long periods of time made her pain worse.

She later switched to customer service, which allowed her to sit throughout the day. However, this sedentary lifestyle caused her weight to climb even higher. During the show, she admitted feeling emotionally hurt whenever children pointed out her size. Eventually, she left that job too.

Jacky hasn’t said much about her current job since she was on My 600-lb Life. She prefers to keep that information to herself. Instead, she is still focused on getting better and sharing her progress on social media.
