NCIS: Los Angeles Season 13 Episode 20 Recap
NCIS Special Agent Sam Hanna had a difficult assignment. He’d moved in with his dad. His father has been confused and lost lately. He couldn’t live alone any longer. But moving him in was a challenge. The Major was strict. He was used to giving rather than taking. Sam persuaded his father, and he deserves a medal. Sam also sold his father’s house. It was too big for one person. They sold the house to a young couple with plans to start a family. That made the Makor happy.
Sam was alone moving boxes because his best friend wasn’t there. Callen was actually busy. He took a break from hunting Katya and realised he wanted to propose to Ana. They’ve been dating a while. They even lived together and recently got over a snag. Callen thought now was the time.
He asked Ana’s father Arkady’s blessing. Arkady drank vodka in the morning. Then he persisted despite the warning. When Callen asked Arkady for his blessing, Arkady first laughed. It was a joke to Arkady. When he realised it wasn’t, he stopped. Arkady opposes this union. He advised them not to marry. He said marriages are doomed.
Ana would never marry Callen without his permission. Callen disputes that claim. Why Arkady refused his permission was beyond him, so Arkady went the extra mile. He said he wouldn’t marry her. In addition, he does not want them to have children. Arkady forbade it all. Callen couldn’t figure it out.
Callen was later summoned. He and Sam were sent to investigate a break-in at a naval facility by two armed men. Callen had not worked in a while. After Katya’s deep fakes, he was suspended. But times have changed. People are starting to forget about Callen’s sexual harassment videos. Callen was allowed to accompany Sam out in the field and told him what had happened to Arkady. That surprised Sam. Sam didn’t think it was bad luck if Callen and Ana married without Arkady’s permission.
Arkady had been very offensive when he implied Callen should know all about curses as a Gypsy. Callen didn’t want to talk about it. He was still upset at being told “no”. They had a case to argue. The two-armed man who cut a fence on a naval base had detonated a mine. The bomb killed one and severely burned another.
The team sought out the lone survivor. Just to get his name. But the man’s lawyer stopped them. Lawyer Jeremy Chambers. Chambers also represented the deceased’s father. Then Chambers. John Doe’s name eluded him. He also said he was hired by an unnamed client. The team investigated him and found that Chambers was an insurgent’s lawyer.
Terrorists in their own country James Miller, the leader, had set up a GoFundMe for the hospitalised man. The injury occurred during a “military” training exercise. Forget that they broke into a federal facility and tried to kill themselves rather than be caught. Terrorists thought they were the story’s heroes. That’s what the team discovered after questioning the lawyer.
Fatima and Roundtree were injured while investigating the dead man’s trailer. It blew on them, injuring them. They sat out the rest of it. Shyla saw the team was short-staffed and volunteered to go into the field. Only the Admiral needed to know. Admiral Kilbride liked her idea so much that he joined her.
The team was able to overwhelm the insurrectionists at their compound with backup and the unexpected arrival of Fatima and Rountree. They killed or imprisoned everyone. Deeks and Kensi got to talk. Rosa’s asylum application had been denied. They decided to adopt Rosa and her friend Pilar at the same time. Pilar was a teen in foster care. She and Rosa are both from Guatemala. And neither Kensi nor Deeks wanted to split.
To handle Arkady properly, Callen learned. If Ana says yes, they’ll threaten not to invite Arkady to the wedding, which will ensure his blessing.
And Sam got to return home to his dad’s warm welcome. His father did not go alone. But he got beer, which was better than life on the boat.
Callen set aside his Katya issues to focus on his current goal: marrying Anna.
Callen went to Arkady to ask for his blessing to marry Anna. Only Arkady refused, telling Callen that defying him would curse their marriage.
Arkady is against them marrying. Is he aware of Callen’s situation? Or does he think Anna is too stubborn to be a housewife?
Looking forward to Anna’s reaction when Callen raises this issue next week.
