Only Murders in the Building — Rose Cooper: Who is she?

The first mention of Rose Cooper appears in season two’s second episode  titled “Framed”  of “Only Murders in the Building.” She is an artist who most likely lived in the Arconia apartment building in New York City. Despite not having yet made an appearance in the series, the character is an artist with ties to Bunny’s mother, Leonora Folger, and Charles-Haden Savage.

A priceless painting has gone taken from Bunny’s apartment, Charles, Mabel, and Oliver discover in the season 2 premiere, “Persons of Interest.” Later, Charles’ apartment unexplainably receives that painting. But Leonora, the original owner, dismisses the painting as a copy. Although the painting is signed by the artist Rose Cooper, Charles claims that the naked guy in it is his father. The group surmises that Mr. Savage and Rose Cooper are somehow related.

Rose Cooper’s Cause of Death

Only Murders in the Building — Rose Cooper ---

Charles speaks with Leonora in the second episode’s scene in an effort to learn more about his father’s relationship with the artwork and, in turn, Rose Cooper. Leonora explains that she and Rose were the objects of Charles’ father’s liaison. When Rose encountered financial difficulties, she made the decision to sell the picture of Mr. Savage. Out of love for Charles’ father, Leonora decided to purchase the picture. But some time after selling Leonora the piece of art, Rose Cooper vanished without a trace. The police soon learned that Leonora had passed away. Throughout the first two episodes of the second season of the show, Rose Cooper is still an elusive character. Outside of her claimed affair with Mr. Savage, not much is known about her personal life or history. Nevertheless, the conspiracy involving Rose’s painting of Charles’ father officially begins with her passing.

The specifics of Rose’s death are kept a secret in the first two episodes of season 2. But her enigmatic passing undoubtedly affected the value of her painting. The second episode’s flashback shows that Charles’ father was detained for an unspecified offense. It’s likely that Mr. Savage was detained in relation to Rose Cooper’s passing. The fact that Charles’ father became distraught upon his incarceration suggests that he did not murder Rose. It is improbable that Mr. Savage was involved in Rose’s death given that he was probably having an affair with her and liked her. The precise reason for Rose’s demise is still a mystery. One thing is for certain, though: in order to unravel the mystery of Bunny’s murder, Charles, Mabel, and Oliver must first unravel the circumstances behind Rose Cooper’s unsolved death from decades earlier.
