An exciting new Star Wars story is about to begin in Skeleton Crew, the highly anticipated Disney+ show created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford. Along with The Mandalorian and its connected spin-offs, the show takes place in the New Republic Era and is about four kids who find an old starship and launch themselves into the unknown by accident. As they get lost in the galaxy, they face challenges and make friends, including a mysterious man named Jod Na Nawood who can sense the Force and a loyal droid named SM-33. But in this exciting story, one character stands out because she is so complicated and interesting: KB.

KB is a young girl from the planet At Attin played by Kyriana Kratter who gets caught up in this space adventure. While her friends also deal with the difficulties of being lost in space, KB has her own problems that make her stand out. She is not completely human; her cybernetic enhancements are part of who she is. But who is KB, and what about her makes her such an interesting Star Wars character? Let’s learn more about her past and find out how she became a hybrid.

KB’s Origins on At Attin

They lived on the planet At Attin during the New Republic Era. KB grew up there with her parents, Garree and Maree. She spent her childhood with Fern, who was her best friend. At first, life on At Attin seemed calm, but one day things went terribly wrong. Around 9 A.D., a different child named Wim found a buried spaceship in the woods outside of their city. Wim, Fern, KB and their friend Neel decided to look into it because they were interested. But their exploration took a strange turn when someone accidentally turned on the starship—sending them far from home and into the galaxy’s unknown reaches.

As the kids got used to their new world, KB’s dual nature as a human-droid hybrid became clear. She was born human but her cybernetic enhancements made a big difference in her life and personality. The details of how KB got to need these cybernetics are still a mystery but they have become an important part of who she is—both making her strong and weak.

Is KB a Cyborg?

KB is a cyborg, which means he is a mix of a human and a robot. She has prosthetic limbs and parts of her brain that were replaced with computers. These give her special abilities. Because of these additions, she is very analytical and can carefully record and process information. There are, however, big problems that come with them. It was shown in Episode 6 (“Zero Friends Again”) that KB’s cybernetics often break down in harsh environments, like Lanupa’s acidic atmosphere.

In this episode, KB’s prosthetics break, which stops her from moving. Wim is the one she trusts to fix things quickly and cheaply using old droid parts. As she walks him through the process, KB talks about how her life as a cybernetic being affects her emotions. She tells Wim about her problems and how she often feels alone, even with her best friends. Wim reassures her that she is not alone, even though she is weak. This makes their relationship stronger and gives KB new hope.

Problems and Weaknesses of KB

One of the most moving things about KB’s character is how she struggles with herself. She has trouble figuring out how to balance her human emotions with her droid-like traits. Her cybernetic brain helps her analyze and record data but it makes it harder for her to connect with other people. Kyriana Kratter, an actress said in an interview that KB’s hybrid nature makes her feel different and alone a lot of the time. She said, “Part of her brain is a machine.” “That’s helpful in some ways but it makes it a little bit harder to make friends.”

KB’s visor is an important part of her look and serves both practical and symbolic purposes. It helps her see better and lets her scan her surroundings. It also protects her and lets her hide when she feels scared or vulnerable. This duality shows how hard it is for KB to balance her strengths and weaknesses.

In Episode 6, KB’s failed prosthetic is a turning point in her life. Her emotional problems are mirrored in her physical breakdown, which forces her to face her fears and ask her friends for help. As Wim helps her through this ordeal, their friendship grows stronger, showing how important friendship and teamwork are in getting through hard times.

KB’s Backstory and Character Arc

Skeleton Crew hasn’t fully delved into KB’s past yet, but Kratter said that she made up her own story to help her perform. She said,

“I made up my own backstory so that everything was clear when I was acting.” Even though her version of events isn’t official, it gives KB more depth as a person.

Kratter says that KB’s accident and the cybernetic enhancements that followed had a huge effect on her personality. People can focus on her emotional journey instead of the specifics of her origins because her past isn’t clear. As the series goes on, KB starts to accept both sides of herself, becoming less robotic and more in touch with her human side. This growth is clear in how she interacts with the group, especially with Wim, who helps her see how valuable the skills she has are.
