Who is the Wife of Saman Kunan?

Years of Sam’s life were spent with Valeepoan “Meow” Kunan (or Waleeporn “Meow” Gunan) by his side, whether he was serving in the military or had just retired. She was aware of the risks associated with his (previous) line of work, but she could never have anticipated losing her love because it’s just not something you ever consider. As a result, it would seem that July 6, 2018, was one of the hardest days of her life because it was the day she lost her spouse and became a widow. Sam had passed away from asphyxiation while diving into administering oxygen.

According to Kunan’s wife in the BBC video, “In other people’s eye’s his lovely. For me, I love him so much. I really loved you.”

Everyday before he left for work, we said we loved each other. At midday, we’d text to see if the other had had lunch.”

In the evening, when he got home, I would ask him how he was.

Saman once said we never knew when we would die. We can’t control that, so we need to cherish every day.”

It’s like I’ve died but I’m still alive.”

But I use my pride to repress my sadness.

He’s been praised as a hero because of who he was, doing charity work and getting things done.

So I use pride to help deal with my sorrow.

I want to tell you honey, you are the hero in my heart. You always were and always will be.”

Wichai Gunan, Kunan’s father, stated in the BBC video, “I am very proud. But I am very sad too, because I lost my beloved son. May you rest in peace. Rest well. Daddy loves you.

Only a few days after her entire world had fallen apart, Valeepoan said, “If you ask me if I am sad, it’s like I’ve died but I’m still alive. But I use my pride to repress my sadness. [My husband was] praised as a hero because of who he was, doing charity work and getting things done. So I use pride to help deal with my sorrow. I want to tell you honey, you are the hero in my heart. You always were and always will be.

It’s important to note that Valeepoan used her (now-defunct) Instagram account to pay respect to her late husband in the days after his awful, abrupt death to process her sorrow.

She wrote in one post, “You will always be with me… there’s no one like you… if you’re not with me, I don’t want to go on breathing… because we promised each other we would use the same breath.”

A few days later, Valeepoan shared a picture of the two of them together in black and white, along with the caption, “I miss you. I love you so much; I love you like you’re my very heart, I don’t know why I love you so much… from now on when I wake up..who will I kiss?”

Now, Valeepoan seems to have entirely withdrawn from the public eye, perhaps to let go of the hurt and the past finally. However, it’s likely that she still lives in Thailand.
