Who Was Burt Templet and What Happened to Him?

I Just Killed My Dad, a Netflix documentary, centres on 53-year-old Louisiana resident Burt Templet’s murder. Burt Templet was shot and killed by his 17-year-old son Anthony on June 3, 2019, after they got into a fight over the phone. Fox8 Local First claims that when the two started fighting, Burt attempted to determine whether Anthony was in contact with his ex-wife Susan.

“He attempted to harm me. Then we started punching each other. I quickly entered his room, shut the door, and grabbed a revolver “In a 911 call made following the incident, Anthony said. He attempted to [inaudible] as I unlocked the door, and I then shot him.

Burt, 53, died a few days after being shot three times by Anthony, who was initially accused of second-degree murder. But it was later discovered that in 2007, Burt had kidnapped five-year-old Anthony from the house where he lived with Anthony’s mother and siblings and then abused him physically and mentally.

In the documentary, Anthony described how his father would “hit, throw, and kick” him when he was angry and that “sometimes it wouldn’t stop for hours.” This was according to The Irish Sun.

He stated, “He tried to attack me. Then, we got into a fist fight. Then, I ran in his room, closed the door and got a gun,” Anthony said in a 911 call after the shooting. “As I unlocked the door, he tried to [inaudible] and then I shot him.”

Burt prevented Anthony from going to school as well, claiming before a judge that he had never spent an entire year in an academic setting. “Never did he send me to a public school. I’ve never known why,” In the series, Anthony says.

Anthony’s family claimed that the adolescent shot his father in self-defense, and his sister Natasha revealed that they didn’t find out where Anthony was until after his arrest.

In 2019, she told WAFB, “After 11 years of waiting to hear if my brother was still alive, he has been located. He has been secluded and abused all these years by his own father. My brave brother had to defend himself for the last time against that evil man.”

She also said, “He snatched him from our home. Burt and my mom were together for about ten years and it was extremely violent.”

Prior to the shooting, Burt’s ex-wife Susan, who was described in court filings as being physically violent and once having one of her teeth knocked out, requested a court order of protection against him, according to Fox8Live.

According to Susan, “Burt had an app on his phone; with every movement on a camera he’d get a text of what was going on. Every time I turned my car engine off, he’d get an alert that it was off. If I parked here, he could know when I’d got home from the grocery store and how many bags I was carrying.”

After the accusations against Anthony were later reduced to manslaughter, he was found guilty of negligent homicide in March 2021 and given a five-year probationary term with supervision and a high school graduation requirement.

What Did Burt Templet Do

What Was Burt Templet’s Profession? What Did He Do?

Burt Templet’s work has always been a bit of a mystery because he never disclosed his interests or credentials, let alone his career trajectory, but we can now say with certainty that he was a project engineer. In reality, according to what appears to be his LinkedIn page, he last worked as a functional specialist at Luster National in New Orleans for a US Army Corps of Engineers contract.

His childhood best friend actually had no idea how he made his living, which is an immensely perplexing component that the Netflix original documentary series came to light.

Since they were about 15 or 16, James Tennyson, one of his closest friend, stated, “[Burt] told me he worked in plants at times.” He was a project controls engineer who made $100 per hour. I admit that I wasn’t precisely clear about what he did. But Susan Wilson Templet, Anthony’s stepmother, who was his then-wife, said the 53-year-old was a great provider if you just looked at their finances and way of life at that point. She added, “We had new cars. We lived in a lovely house. A swimming pool was purchased and set up by all of us. We would take numerous vacations.

However, despite all these apparent luxuries, Susan ended her relationship with Burt six months before the incident in early June 2019 because of the severe domestic abuse she had to endure. She didn’t find out about his job loss or financial difficulties until much later, according to the docuseries, while he was still abusing heavy drugs, including alcohol and cocaine.

Susan clarified to convey the whole picture, “I learned Burt had lost his job for bad performance, and he had $80,127 in credit card debt. It’s important to note that Anthony’s account concluded that his father’s uncontrollable spiral and “the beginning of the end” were caused by her abandoning him.
